Just registered here to see if any of you good folk have had this issue.
I've had a Livebox and Orange broadband for almost four years. No major hiccups, rarely had to contact customer service (thankfully).
About a week ago, the wifi started acting up. Intermittently dropping out or being really slow - 56k or slower.
Sometimes it wont even show on my laptop or ipod touch when searching - even after prssing the '1' button to seek a new device.
Im able to get a normal fast wired connection, just wifi is the problem. On the config pages, I've changed channel five times - it works for a bit then stops. Have also disconnected and re-connected all wifi devices.
Tried customer services but they're woeful. I' waiting on a call back from a tech team member but suspect I may get old first.
That sounds like a wireless channel interference problem.
A good free download is inSSIDer :-http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider
That will show all the channels in use around you. Choose a channel if possible at least 2 away from any of the strongest ones shown. So if the strongest are 1 and 6 then choose 9 upwards although the "best" channels are the lower ones.....that's why they're usually well-populated !
If you can email your landline number/broadband account number and best contact number to customer.services@orange.co.uk, I'll give you a ring to discuss.
So I can pick up your mail quickly, please add 'Jonathan Orange Response' in the first line.
Hi Jonathan, cheers for that but i tried the program Borednow suggested and changing wifi channel ( for the 6th time!) has done the trick.
Worked for the last 24 hours so fingers crossed.
I can only guess that one of my neighbours has recently got a wifi device that was interfering.
One thing though - why not have helpdesk staff with some technical experience? Based on my experience the other night, the only qualification was good communication skills. They were literally no help whatsoever. And my 'callback' still hasnt come.
