I am looking at other ips and my MAC code is valid for another 3 weeks.
Only thing is found out that BT have dropped plans to make my exchange 21CN enabled, it was supposed to be end of March, now there are no plans!
So it looks like an 8 meg package for me. I was hoping for a lot more choice. So much for BT wanting to take broadband into the 21st century!!
Mind you I never had had up to 20meg from Orange. However before Orange messed up my broadband on the 8 meg package, I was getting speeds of 7 meg, so I should in theory be able to get that on another 8 meg package? Although they all say 5 to 5.5. I guess LLU made the difference?
Sky and Talk Talk are LLU enabled on my exchange up to 20meg, the rest have to use BT up to 8 meg for now.
Anyone know of a number I can ring BT to find out future plans for my exchange? I have looked at the usual places on line, samknows etc but it would be nice to know of the implementation date.
I guess I was hoping Orange would have fixed my speeds by now, but after looking at the threads on here, it turns out just to have been a pipe dream.
It would be nice for a company like Orange to put the customer first and know that someone in their tech department is working on your behalf to put things right, afterall we pay their wages! But sadly customers are way down the list with this company!
OK, if I was in your position, I'd be leaning towards Sky LLU, other than that I would be looking at BTw product from:-
XILO
AAISP
FAST
These have some of the best customer service standards of all ISPs. If a problem happens they're on to it immediately.
Even if somebody could tell you a WBC date for your exchange that doesn't mean it will happen then....BT change their priorities as you have already found out.
Just been looking at what else is available on my exchange and an update caught my eye:
LLU
Orange Available 20.01.10
So it looks like Orange have had to do an update to their LLU equipment at the exchange!!! They have had an LLU presence for around 3-4 years so something needed to be updated!
So Orange have had to make some changes afterall!!!
Now why didn't they just tell me.
Obviously their equipment was not working properly at my exchange!
If you check it out in more detail, there have been a number of 2010 date references for several ISPs who already had exchange presence so don't place too much importance on that.
The important thing is has your throughput speed increased from dial-up+ levels ?
just writing this as I am hanging on for Fault management (see below);they've been ringing me up to ask if the case can be closed !
well, I've left the router on permanently now. For those who've been following the story my stats AT THE ROUTER now say
Status: Cable connected
Line mode: G.992.5 (ADSL2+)
Maximum line rate: 13526 kbps (downstream) / 1192 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 10 dB (downstream) / 5 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 28 dB (downstream) / 13 dB (upstream)
Output power: 22 dBm (downstream) / 12 dBm (upstream)
and the actual speed (real through put at 19:17 is 4.67 meg = CRAP)
Phone update: put on hold by customer care: she speaks to fault management; she comes back and says she's putting me through to Tech support (ohhh noooooo); wait......wait.....wait; she comes back "sorry for the delay"; tell her I don't want to talk to India, I want the Fault management team; She puts phone down. She rings back and says sorry she lost connection; she's putting me through: wait.......wait.......wait.
she comes back and says the Fault Management team won't talk to me 'cos there's no fault. Ask her to put me through to Escallation Team; wait.....wait.....wait.....; got a lad in escallation he says "I understand you want to make a complaint" HA HA TOO DAMN RIGHT , explained the issue about wanting some answers about DLM to questions I left on Friday. Guess what "I'll just have to go and speak to fault management" DOH. Tell him they won't talk to me so good luck. wait.....wait.....wait now been 30 mins (not so bad based on experience!).
He comes back - correct I have to leave the router on all the time.
I say I want another MAC code (current one runs out in 3 days) and I don't expect to pay any cancellation charges. Tell him their DLM is useless, they need to inform people about what they sell. He is going to check the notes and get back to me.
I say I want another <a href="http://www.maccodes.co.uk">MAC</a> code (current one runs out in 3 days) and I don't expect to pay any cancellation charges.
Perhaps you aren't aware and to save your blood pressure when Orange tell you, you will have to wait until the current one expires as it is not possible to issue 2 current MACs.....there, better coming from me isn't it ?
About an hour ago, my modem resynched automatically.
My figures are now:
2045/605 down/up
atte 32/18 down/up
SNRM 28/25.5 down/up
pwr 19/12 down/up.
So my download speed has doubled!!
What does concern me is that my SNRM down was around 36 and it was reporting max download of 14,500.
However with the SNRM now at 28, it is only reporting 10,800 max download!
Although Orange still state max download is 12.5 meg in my Orange account.
Can anyone explain why my router is now only reporting 10,800 max. I know it is related to the SNRM but if my speed doubles again, then the SNRM will go down further and my router will show a even slower max download speed.
Based on those figures above, what should the DLM give me as my max download speed? 12.5 meg?
Well I have my MAC code without penalty, that runs out on the 14th Feb, so just over 2 weeks to decide.
With Orange though, if this DLM gets itself hot and bothered, like it does, then any fast speeds I get, may disappear back to 1 meg AGAIN! Their DLM has certainly not impressed me at all. I have done nothing wrong in all these weeks YET today it decides to take action. WHY NOT 6 WEEKS AGO!!!!
I will see what it tops out on and have a word with Orange. There is no way I want the feeling of finding my speed back to 1meg again IF I get my 12.5meg top speed in the next few days.
