A very useful resourse is this forum and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I upgraded back in July 2005 from my 2MB to the supposedly faster 8MB connection.
I am now having the same problems that I had back in May of this year. Namely that my speed has dropped to around 1.5mbps or below. I have been trying to speak to the tech services department and customer services. Yet they are adamant that I am on the fastest speed possible.
I am repeating virtually every single thing that I said back in May. The fact that I am on a 8MB package, and that since they rectified the fault in May I have been getting speeds of over 5mbps. The Orange website itself advises that my line is capable of 9mbps, yet the tech department is adamant that its 2.0.
I am at wits end and am thinking of moving to someone else. Would anyone have any advice as to how best to proceed. Should I complain in writing to their head office?
Maybe no consolation, but I have had something similar over the past week or so. My line dropped from a steady 6.5Mb to around 450Kb, when I hadn't changed anything.
I rebooted my livebox (once a day - I believe it upsets your profile if done too often), until I got an IP address significantly different than before. All is now good again. For me, anything in the 91.107.2nn.nnn range doesn't seem to work whereas 91.107.nn.nnn seems to.
I spoke to Orange with a view to obtaining the MAC code, they asked me why I wanted to leave and I told them the background.
Transpires that becuase I was on an old package (one that they dont offer no more) and one that was free becuase I had a mobile package that was over 30.00, they regraded me from the 8mpb package that i was on to the 2mb package.
They also had the cheek to say if i wanted to go back to the 8mb then why didnt I take out an upgrade package which would cost between 10-20 pounds per month. The cheek!
Naturally, I went ahead and asked them to send me the MAC code, my business is better suited elsewhere.
I been with Wanadoo and now Orange for over 8 years and to see them treat a loyal customer in this manner is shocking and one that I did not expect.
Good Luck - don't blame you, and I am sure you will do better elsewhere. I'm waiting for more LLU kit to be installed in my local exchange, at the moment, I have the choice of Orange (I've been with them since freeserve days), and Talk Talk.
With Talk Talk's reputation, I'm sticking with the devil I know for now, but as soon as there is more kit, I'm off.
