I wonder if somebody could give me advice. I have been with Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve for over ten years now, for the last Three years or so I have been on an 8Mb unlinited download package although my maximum speed was only about 2Mb. I recently changed to the Orange Home Select package which offers 20Mb download speeds. Last week I awoke to discover that my 2Mb connection has dropped to 0.5Mb. All the internet speed tests I have run now tell me that "0.5Mb is the fastest speed my line can support". Since when?? I rang the Orange 0844 technical support line a number of times - broadband speed must be a difficult issue with them because as soon as you tell them your query they do rudimentary investigations and promptly cut me off. This has happened 3 times now. To be honest I'm not sure if the problem is with Orange or BT. Has anyone had any similar complaints? Who should I contact?
I'm a little puzzled so I will ask the question but don't take this the wrong way.
If you were only receiving 2Mb throughput on an up to 8Mb package, what made you think that you could improve on that with an up to 20Mb package ?.....was it an Orange suggestion ?
Also is this new connection on LLU or IPStream/WBC ?

I didn't think there would be any improvement, I was under no illusions about that. The only reason I switched packages is because the 20Mb package is eight pound cheaper. So I didn't expect the speed to go up but I certainly didn't expect it to go down either!
EDIT: Sorry, missed your last question. Don't know what LLU or IPStream is! Is there an easy way for me to find out which connection I'm on? Cheers.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 706 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2688 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 750 Kbps
Do you think this is an issue with BT rather than Orange?
Okay, will do. I've never actually used the Livebox, I've always used a Netgear wireless router. Apparently they're sending me out a new wireless router to go with the new package I've signed up for but it hasn't arrived yet. Not sure whther I should use it or stick with my Netgear.
At any rate, I'll keep on at them. Many thanks for your help with this!

OK........in that case, I'm now wondering if the new package has been provisioned yet....it's possible it won't be until the Livebox arrives, best check with Orange.
