Does anyone know the IP address for the smtp email server?
I have a piece of software that uses your e-mail account to send you e-mails about your computers status when you are away, but it can't seem to access the server. The help file describes putting in the server IP address rather than the smtp.wanadoo.co.uk address, and I wondered if this would help.
2) its broadband via livebox, so I assume not dial-up as such
3) I'm not sure whether it is attempting to use authenticated SMTP or not - how would I know?
4) I switched off the windows firewall, but not the livebox internal firewall - should I switch that off as well?
5) the Orange smtp server works fine with Outlook - although it is the old wanadoo address, not the orangehome address.
6) Windows XP, SP2. the program is called My Guard Video Security. It comes with the MSI starcam 370i webcam. The idea is that the software detects motion and then the webcam starts recording video. The software then e-mails you pictures captured by the webcam. So in theory if someone breaks into my house when I am at work I get an e-mail with their picture!
The info provided by John and the IP address posted earlier should be fine. Can you send details of the error message that u receive?

Error 10053 (if reported by an email software) refers to the connection being disrupted by either an Antivirus or a Firewall. Disable ALL security s/w and you should be fine. Check with the security s/w as to how you can lower the settings for this program to access the net

the error is 'couldn't connect to server, error 10053'
I don't think its a windows error message, and the MSI forums have no information.
Hi; additionally, your s/w itself may be aborting the connection, so check that as well. Also, since using a livebox, set MTU to 1500...

you were right marsh - it was my anti-virus causing the problem.
I don't suppose you know anything about mcafee virus scan enterprise do you??!
It has something called access protection properties, with options like 'prevent irc communication' 'prevent ftp outbound' 'prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail' etc. I assume I need to disable or alter one of these but I've no idea how and the mcafee help is no help!
although experience (or log analysis ) is usually more useful than these 'meanings' in determining the source of the problem.

Try disabling all options related to scanning of outgoing emails.
