I read another thread on this forum about Orange giving the Broadband Max package for £17.99 p/m, instead of the usual £27.99. I was offered this deal, and I thought it was a good deal, until I looked closer...
Firstly, check out the call charges. For example, using the Wireless and Talk service, calls to any UK mobiles is charged at 10p p/min. On BT, a weekend call to a mobile could cost as little as 3.75 p/min.
A good deal? Think again.
What they're trying to do is hook you so that you get used to your Wireless and Talk service. The calling costs will no doubt increase over the next 6 months.
That said, if you want to just make 01 and 02 calls, and you're aware of the other calling costs, then this might be for you.
You also need two 2 phones, a BT one and a cordless one. People still called me on my BT phone, but to make the savings, I had to call them using my phone which was connected to the Livebox! Really annoying! Also, you have to keep the Livebox and cordless phone permanently connected to the power adapters. The Livebox consumes a lot of power...
Is this really a step forward? Two phones, two power adapters and a wife who just can't understand any of it! I thought it was too much trouble.

The call prices have only changed twice since Talk was introduced over a year ago, once when it was expanded to allow pretty much any number and the standard mobile and landline costs didn't change at all. The second time was with the introduction of the Talk Anytime for Max, meaning free landline calls 24/7. It's unlikely they'll put the prices up with the current market as overall call prices keep falling.

Does it? Not looked into it myself but I always assumed routers didn't use a whole lot of power.
Also it is possible to get a small switchbox so you can connect a single phone to both lines, can even set it to only use one line for outgoing calls as far as I'm aware. Depends on the switchbox itself.
