In france Orange can offer VOIP, IPTV, Landline services, home monitering and more via the livebox. when can we expect these sorts of things in the UK. France must also use a different version of the livebox because Orange can provide an 18meg connection via the livebox.
This makes you realise how far behind the Uk really is.
Remember Orange is owned by France Telecom, effectively France's BT so they probably got a head start over there compared.
The IPTV stuff is pretty bandwidth intensive as you'd expect and I heard it needs at least 4meg or better for it to really work well. Thats one reason it's out in France, because they have ADSL 2+ so have enough bandwidth to spare for it.
The more bandwidth you have the more extra services you can run so you can probably expect lots of new stuff to start popping up, maybe even before christmas.
It's pointless just replacing the copper wires to you can get 50meg down them if the backend network can't support more than 10.
