We have a small house in France and have some issues with our Livebox.
Is there any way I can set the Livebox for people to automatically connect without having to push the pairing button, or worry about putting the security code? We have a setup which means the Livebox isn't automatically accessible for people, and the place is rented out and we really need to make the access easier. Please bear in mind that even if we access the innermost sanctum of the setup, it is in French, and frankly we do not have a clue.
For information, the box only works with laptops etc if you set the thing in pairing mode and input the security key.
Is it the case that we need to attach a separate wireless router, and if so, how do we achieve this.
Orange UK won't help us at all, and we can't understand the French helpline at all!
Help in single syllables would be much appreciated!!
Hi Paul....i'm in the same boat as you with a slightly different problem.
I have an Apple MAC laptop which is and has been connected to my Orange Livebox here in France for two years. All well and good.
I now want to establish a link with another work laptop in the house which is PC.
I have a Vista CD-ROM from Orange Fr. when I load it I get through the installation until the end when it asks for my WEP KEY I load the WEP correctly (many times) but I am prompted that the WEP I have loaded is incorrect.
I have also brought out a Pure Evoke Flow radio so I can listen to UK radio via the internet...loading that also asks for the Livebox WEP KEY which I load and then am told it is incorrect. I guess this must mean that the Livebox WEP Key has been changed? Lost? Is unnattributable? Although both Lap top and radio read that there is a Livebox 7858 available for networking with.
What to do?
HELP!

It is possible to turn off the wirless security on liveboxes, though this isnt usually recommended.
Do you know what version livebox you have?
Im not that familiar with the versions floating around France, I know they have a Sagem Fast 3202. Inventel versions of the livebox also exist and maybe some newer versions.
The settings can be altered by opening the livebox's IP address in your web browser, usually something like 192.168.1.1. If you used the installation disks you may have a shortcut on your desktop or in your start menu. The default username & password to access these pages are both admin The layout of these pages can vary between livebox versions, but you are looking for wireless settings or advanced wireless settings.

If your livebox has a pairing button you will need to press this prior to trying to establish a connection, which usually gives you about 10 minutes in which to set your initial connection. Once it is paired you shouldnt have to do this again. Security keys are also case sensitive. Also check you are using the correct encryption protocol, WEP, WPA etc.
You can check the WEP settings including security key using the above method I described.
Generally unless you need drivers for a wireless dongle, the Orange set up disks arnt required. The config you need, can all be done via the web interface, provided that you understand the language it is written in.
