After 3 weeks with no broadband (the service stopped working when it was upgraded to 8 meg) I have finally found the solution.
I made countless calls to Orange who told me i had a fault with my PC or the copper in my house.
I knew this wasn't true as a mate had tested the line for me, said it was fine and that there was a high speed adsl service present.
He said the isp had blocked access.
Eventually, I phoned Orange and told them i would like my migration code so that I can sign up with another isp as they are s@*t.
Went to my PC to dial up and receive e-mail and found that I was connected at 6.5meg!!!!!!!!!!!
Give it a try. It worked for me.
Orange haven't sent me the code though!
Oh, and the livebox connects at 2.5 meg while my old router connects at 6.5.
Liveboxes are great for chocking car wheels while you change a flat.

I've been stuck with their sh#tty service and lame excuses for last 3 weeks too. Have asked for MAC code , nothing. have been promised a working service by tomorrow.... a likely story

A few months ago I wanted to switch to AOL, that was before I knew about the 8Mb upgrade.
I called Wanadoo customer services to get a MAC code and was asked for a reason to leave Wanadoo. The facts were that AOL was offering more speed for less money that I was paying with Wanadoo.
This was the turning point as since that moment, Wanadoo made a real effort to keep me as a customer by having my call transferred twice until they got the right person who was able to explain me that they (Wanadoo) were about to offer in just a few days the 8Mb upgrade. Gave me full details about what to do and when to do it. Obviously this was the better offer at the time and I stayed with them.
About this particular experience, I'd say asking for a MAC code might be useful at certain times to get a reaction.
Well.....having read through some of these posts I feel lucky in that I've only been disconnected for just under two weeks! However it has made me realise that there's little real point in staying. I am hearing my story over and over again here.
I am also hearing many tails of difficulties obtaining MAC code as well, but I'm thinking of just cancelling my Direct Debit anyway and getting the hell out.
I've yet to re-read my contract through to find out exactly where I stand legally, does anyone know anything about that side of things?

As far as the MAC code goes, the LLU industry has not adopted this as it is in design and testing at the moment. So untill this becomes standared in a month or so, if you are on LLU, you won't be able to migrate out.
Be carfull about the contract thing. If you are not tied into a 12 month contract then tell them to disconnect you. This should take about 5 working days (as long as BT/Openreach stick to the SLA) and you can then stop payments.
If you are within the 12 month contract, don't just stop the direct debits as this can bring a whole world of pain. You are contractualy bound to make the 12 payments. I know the argument is that they are not supplying the service, and for this they should refund you, but if you just stop paying it can get nasty and end up at a debt collection agency. Above all, read the T's & C's

Hi
You can migrate out as long as your present ISP agree to give you a LLU MAC code (usually 48 hrs to generarate one) unfotunately not all ISP's accept LLU MACs ive just migrated myself from Orange after giving my new ISP my LLU MAC it took 10 days to migrate rather than the norm 5 days with a standard MAC.
Regards
Steve

Steve,
Who did you migrate to and did you loose BB during the migration?
Also, have you migrated to another LLU or back to a BT IPStreem?
