Reading through this and other discussion groups it appears that many folk have variations on the problem to do with receiving emails.
Several times during over the last few years I have experienced much difficulty in picking up emails whilst still able to send and use the net.
Up until this time the problem has resolved within 2-3 weeks.
This time the problem has persisted for about 10 weeks.
Usual error message:-
Unable to send or receive messages for the pop.freeserve.com account. An
incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive
messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this
account.

If Orange are experiencing server/contention problems should subscribers be informed ?
I have contacted customer-service@uk.orange.com on numerous occasions but have usually been ignored
I'm surprised people are using Orange's own e-mail system. Why not use the countless of free ones like Yahoo, Hotmail, Googlemail etc... ? - I've never had any problems with them.
And if you must use Orange, then I'd advise going through their website. I've just sent an e-mail (from Orange) to another a/c (at Yahoo), and it seems absolutely fine.
I use Orange for e-mails because before Orange took over it was originally freeserve. I set up my e-mail account and have had my address, which is used by lots of contacts, on my stationary, which cost alot to produce,
The fact that I am an Orange customer, indeed paying for my broadband service, the least I can expect, surely, is to get help to solve problems arising with their system.
If we all just decided to give up and go elsewhere when there is a problem, the problem can never be addressed.

I agree but as I mentioned earlier, I much prefer other e-mail accounts rather than Orange.

Progress at last – I have eventually received help from Orange which has worked – the relevant info is in this quote:-
"First, please ensure that you're using the most up-to-date email server
settings in your mail profile settings:
Incoming mail (POP) server: pop.orangehome.co.uk
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.orangehome.co.uk
If you're still having problems receiving emails, it may be that your
emails are stuck on the server, which means you'll only be able to view
them via the Webmail facility.
Please note, your mail will stay on our server until there are up to
1000 emails or a combined size of 100Mb. If you exceed either of these
limitations, you'll no longer be able to receive incoming messages.
To check your email via Webmail, please go to the link below:
I regularly delete read emails on the Orange server but did not realise that these deleted emails are retained by Orange in a deleted emails folder. I found the contents of this folder difficult to remove – had to wait until 10:30 pm!
Thank you Orange but why not automatically remove old emails after a set time ?
Why not give more publicity to the server folder size problem ?
