With effect from October 2005 BTw seems to have moved away from quoting actual contention ratios and instead seem to be moving more towards what is classed as an acceptable speed for IPStream adsl when the network is busy. The following figures are taken from the BTw speed tester and should be considered as a guide for the minimum acceptable speeds:-
In a moment of madness, placed an order with Talk Talk. Cancelled it but now there is a 'cease' on my BT line.
Have to wait for that to dissappear before I can change to Fast.co.uk. Guess once Talk Talk process my cancellation, it will go. What's the betting it will all be cocked up and I will be totally without anything (phone or broadband).
BT customer people seem to be 'abroad' and not know what they are talking about either. The world is turning to s**t* with all these big comanies employing people who have no real knowledge of their companies products or associated technology.
The Fast bloke seemed to know what he was talking about though.
Orange say they can't provide a MAC code as it's till there.
Lisa at Orange escalations was actually helpful and knowledgeable though. She has offered to contact BT direct (when they are open on Tuesday) and sort it out. Thanks Lisa, you should perhaps pass on a bit of your knowledge and customer service skills to some of your colleagues.
good luck.
that eratic ping aint gonna go away while with Orange.
ive been experiencing it for the last 6mths and have to wait until august to change my provider.Im goin to try BT,cos i reckon since its their lines, should be better...fingers crossed.
ive been through the whole report fault, and had BT check the line etc, but no difference.
online gaming is impossible from 10am through to 11pm.
ping jumps from a min52- max200, up and down, while i can watch other ppl's ping move up/down at most by 5.
did u try an' cancel the service for free, on grounds of 'unfit for purpose'?
cos' they said a £60 disconnection fee is charged usually for changeover.
Ran a couple of speedtests and got varying results. Apparently it needs to be on for a few days whilst they tune it or semething.
However, whilst I don't want to be too optomistic too soon, my ping to gaming servers has decreased, but more inportantly appears to be VERY stable in the sub 35 ms bracket
Lucky you. I am getting extremly annoyed at Orange, because they lied to me. Also my xbox live lag is just so unbareable now, i'm getting to the point where i'm nearly tearing my hair out.
My contract is nearly up so hopefully we will be moving ISP.
But for now, ARGHHH i'm so annoyed

Wrong.
IPStream has it turned on by default and admittedly it's difficult to persuade BT to turn on Fastpath instead but it can be done on an individual basis.
