Got the wireless working yesterday, and it was running fine all night. I've had my wired connection running okay for a few days without failing, but but never know, this could be the answer!
Will update after easter again if it hasn't failed finger's crossed!
Well it's beaten the record now so I guess I can safely say that wireless has been the answer! That means that it must be down to the ports on the Livebox or something, but I cannot be bothered to argue with Orange anymore lol.
Only annoying thing with wireless is that it won't connect after going into hibernation, but I think that's just an unfortunate characteristic of this type of connection!? going by what I've read on the net. Neeevermind
Hi,
I think I'm getting a similar issue. I've been successfully using Windows XP for ages with a wired link to the livebox. I installed the Windows 7 RC (dual boot) recently and started getting intermittent failures. Specifically, when the problem occurs, I can no longer connect to the internet and even 192.168.1.1 won't respond. Turning the livebox off and on again (leaving Win 7 running) allows me to connect again.
I **think** the problem is related to the level of network activity. The failures have most often occurred during or just after I've been heavily using the internet connection. However, I've had the machine left on for many hours with little activity and no occurrance of the issue.
When I boot my desktop into Win XP I don't see the issue. However, since I need to restart the livebox to correct the issue, I don't think it's Windows 7 that's actually failing.
Incidentally, I briefly tried a pre-release version of Vista a while ago and saw a similar problem to what I'm seeing with the Win 7 RC.
For reference, my desktop uses a Marvel Yukon Gigabit Ethernet controller built onto the motherboard.
Maybe it is a Vista/7 issue... because I saw it on both.
Even though it's been years since I've used XP at home, I never had the issue with that OS! Again though it's strange I went at least over a year on Vista without an issue either, maybe there was some firmware update that's come along and stuffed it!?
