Here is my problem: I joined Orange which was then Freeserve a long time ago. I am currently a Wireless and Talk customer, with a Wanadoo Livebox connection.
This connection is working fine on my P.C and I have no problems with this.
However I have to wipe my P.C, but have the dilemma on how to install my Livebox to my P.C again after it has been wiped as I do not have the CD, as it was a long time ago?
It's a Wanadoo Livebox, and my Wireless Adapter is a UR054g inventel adapter.
I'm making a backup of my files before I wipe the P.C, is there a way to "backup" the Inventel software that I have installed?
Many Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post i've tried to be descriptive, but if you need more information it is no problem
In the mean time I might have a look around the house for the CD who knows it might be hanging around somewhere!
Before you reinstall i'd make sure you know what your Wireless Security key is... If you know it go ahead and reinstall your OS.. But if you don't it's worth going into the router config before hand and noting it down..
192.168.1.1
It's under Security.
When you have your Operating System up and running... Reinstall the Wireless Adapter to your computer... Then search for wireless networks... You will find your livebox... Enter the Security key when prompted and you will have Wireless back up and running.. It's recommended to find some Antivirus & Firewall software as soon as you are up and running online... Hope this helps.
When you say "reinstall the invental adapter" how do I do this when I do not have the CD, or is it plug and play?
Also are you referring to using the default Windows Wireless setup thing to search for wireless networks rather than the inventel program i'm using now? Does this have any problems, e.g less security because i'm thinking they must install the inventel software for a reason.
The best way to do this is if you have an Ethernet cable then run that from the Livebox to your computer. This will give you internet use immediately. Plug the Inventel Adapter in and it should automatically find the drivers you need for your device. If not they are here
The windows own connection wizard is fine to use and works in the same way your inventel one does.
I did indeed need the drivers but luckily I had backed them up.
You are right in that it works fine with the Windows connection manager rather than the Inventel software.
After I had also found an update to my driver via the Microsoft Updates site, which was released in 2005 but obviously I had just reinstalled XP.
Anyhow I just have two last questions:
- Is there a preffered security to use, WEP, WPA, or NONE ?
- Can I setup my printer so that somebody else can print their documents from another laptop/desktop. (May be a printer forum question, but I have a feeling the livebox would play some part in achieving this.)
Thanks azasmith.

WPA is the more secure... So i'd recommend that one.

It's possible... Plug the printer into the USB port on the back.
On any computer you want to print from that is on the network. Go to Control Panel. Printers, Add a printer... But click Add a Wireless or Bluetooth printer... Click the printer i want isn't listed... (It won't be). Then enter the IP address of your router. (192.168.1.1) name the printer.. Make sure the drop down box is TCP/IP. In the next screen you will have a huge drop down box... Select "Print Server".. Then click next again.
It will ask for drivers so insert the printer driver disk that came with your printer into the computer/laptop and it will print a test page... All should hopefully look good. And not distorted.
Job done.
I just wish there was a way of being able to search for a printer and just print from it. Without the hassle of setting it all up... =]
Be warned, the printer isn't forced to work, many printers just don't when they are transposed to the other end of a network connection. (a limitation of printers in general. nothing to do with the livebox) I haven't found a foolproof method of determining which do and which don't without trying them. The majority that use PCL or postscript as a language will but they are few and far between at the lower end of the market. Good luck.
