Orange conracted me over 12 months ago asking if i wanted to upgrade to the 8meg service, telling me that my line was capable of 2.5meg.
I upgraded and got 2.1 which i was happy with and got this for over 12 months, last week the connection went off and when it cam back on i was etting 0.3meg.
Phoned Orange 2 days ago and was told they were working on the servers and it would be back to normal within an hour but it is still the same, phoned Orange last night and was told my line is capable of 1meg.
When i asked why i have been getting 2meg he answered with "i dont know" but this morning it was back up to 2.1 for a couple of hours and now it varies between 0.3 and 1.1, other broadband sites state i will get 0.5meg.
My router stats are:
Downstream Upstream
Data Rate(Kbps) 2760 605
Noise margin (dB) 10.2 15.8
Output power (dBm) 12.4 17.9
Attenuation (dB) 62.5 35.5
Any idea why i have been getting the speed they promised me and all of a sudden its down.
Thanks, we are 3.68km from the exchange and all this only started after the service went off for over 24 hours and to go from 2.1meg to 0.3 is a bit of a drop.
I have spoken to Orange nicely and then not so nicley (mailny due to the op not wanting to listen) but am unsure how to explain this to them.
What i dont understand how it suddenly changed after an error with the exchange.
Please send an email to customer.services@orange.co.uk, including your contact details and I will give you a call to discuss.
In order that your email is forwarded to me quickly, please add "Jonathan Orange Response" in the subject field and also in the first line of your mail.
I emailed jonathan and got a call back from him yesterday who i spoke with on how it all started. He arranged a callback which i got today.
It appears that my line is capable of 2.5meg but they have been trying to push 3.5 down it, this in turn might be the cause of the problem and the reason why any ISP is showing i can only recieve 512k.
The chap i spoke to today has now arranged an engineer to find out what the problem is and hopefully get it sorted.
My download is now at 0.2meg and my upload has dropped from 0.5 to 0.2.
Post your router stats again if possible use the main BT linebox (not an extension box). If you have an NTE5 main linebox (removable lower half frontplate) then also post the stats plugged into the test socket inside.
The thing that gets me is when i did tests with other providers before all this i could get 2meg, now since all this has happened they will only give me 512k.
Why would my exchange now report i can only get 512k if i have been getting 2.1meg for so long without any dropouts etc.
I have also noticed that when i do a test on speedtest.net my ping has shot up to over 300.
