Hello People, hopefully someone out there can help?
So where to begin?
Back in September I had the broadband package in my house transfered into my name as my flatmates were moving out. No problem here, all done within a week. However I was then cut off on the 1st of December for not paying a bill even though I was on the home starter pack converged with my mobile phone, so it should have been free anyway!! This has taken well over 20 phone calls to the Orange escalation dept to resolve, and 'as a gesture of good will' orange have given me 4 months free as I have reset up my account to a Converged Home Max. This only got activated Jan 24th so nearly two months without broadband.
Trying to connect wireless to the two computers in the house as been a nightmare. The connection is there one minute and then drops the next. I can be on the internet for 20 mins or so and then nothing for about 2 mins, then its back up again. Strangely the @ light flashes red occasionally but only when trying to use the connection. If no computer is using the router the @ light stays solid green.
Next problem. I probably use the internet more for gaming than anything else. When my old internet connection was up and running I had no problem, but since I have moved onto the home max package I cannot connect wirelessly to my ps3. It will find an ip address and internet connection but cannot sign into the playstation network. ( it has connected a few times but kicked me out only seconds later with a timed out response ) However this problem is resolved by connecting the ps3 via ethernet. But then the pcs take about 10 mins just to load a google web page if the ps3 is connected this way. If Im lucky my ps3 will stay connected for 10 mins via ethernet before kicking me out for dropped connection.
I have even tried my old router but have the same problem.
Orange were trying to blame it on poor internal wiring but then discovered I had been on Orange broadband only two months earlier on a supposedly inferior package with no problems, so they changhed their story to 'as you have just changed to Home Max this is the problem, you have to wait 10 days for a stable connection' Can anyone out there tell me if this is correct? and if so why?? I cant understand why my ps3 will connect via ethernet and not wireless, and why the @ light flashes red occasionally, but only when a device is accessing the livebox. Otherwise the @ light stays solid green. Why when using ethernet to ps3 do the pcs have such a poor connection wireless? Why is the speed so bad? I think I have just about tried everything now so I guess im hoping its the whole 10 day thing although I am dubious about this.
Lets simplify things and take one thing at once. Connect something with a web browser (PC would do) with a cable to the red port on the livebox.
Goto http://192.168.1.1 and login with usename admin and password admin. Go to System Information and post what you have in Noise margin (dB) : and Attenuation (dB) :
This takes the wireless issues out of the equation and gets to the ADSL bit.
Hi there, I work for Orange and might be able to help.
Please send an email to customer.services@orange.co.uk, including your contact details and I will give you a call to discuss.
In order that your email is forwarded to me quickly, please add "Jonathan Orange Response" in the subject field and also in the first line of your mail.
The line has problems, its in interleave (which is switched in when it has problems to try and stabilise it) and has a high Attenuation and low Noise Ratio on the downstream. Is it plugged into the master socket and not an extension ?, Have you tried changing the filter or plugging directly into the socket behind the fascia on the BT master socket ?. See if there are any sources of interference in the vicinity that can be moved or switched off. Try re-routing the cable. Restart the router after making changes and see if theres an improvement. If not its engineer time, who you contact will depend on whether you're on LLU (you pay line rental to Orange) or IPstream (you pay line rental to BT. )
Its plugged into the master socket but makes no difference. When I was previously connected to Orange ( about 2 months ago now ) I had no problems at all and my old livebox was connected through an extention. The pc's in the house can connect now ( most of the time, although very slowly ) but I cant connect via my ps3 again. I just get a time out error. Would this be because Orange have now taken over my landline? I am yet to e-mail Jonathan at customer services but will do now.
I'd try swapping the filter that the livebox is plugged into if you have another. I've had one go bad in my time (not on Orange) which caused some wierd problems until I changed it.
I have just tried this and no joy unfortunately. I just cant understand why it doesnt work then it does and now it doesnt again. If Im lucky a web page will download in 5 mins, after writing this twice I have now resorted to copying and pasting overwise i loose it all when the connection fails! Thanks for trying to help out mate, with a little luck Jonathan at Orange will be able to get to the bottom of this???
After writing an e-mail to Jonathan at the Orange response team to his credit he got straight on the case. I soon got a call from a lady ( Chrissy )who has been dealing with this issue for some time, even though I was not able to get to my computer at the time she said she would call back later. When she did and I was able to access the comp and router we went through all sorts of checking and procedures which took over an hour and a half. In actuall fact she stayed on the line till gone 20 mins past her clocking off time. Unfortunately we didnt get too far.
She called me back again yesterday to see how I was getting on.
Although my pc's are experiencing a more stable connection now Im still having horrendous problems with my PS3 connection constantly timing out or disconnecting. Either way I have agreed with her to see if there are any improvements on the line within the next week when she has agreed to call again!
Guess I will wait and see what happens. At least I feel a little better now that there are some friendly people at Orange who try to help!!
