Firstly, i have had the exact same problem as JW in the stickey at the top of this page, with a twist.
Desktop connects to the livebox via ethernet, the laptop connected wirelessly using a USB adapter.
*up until last week, this worked perfectly*
The laptop needed to be reformatted after failing to boot up, and now i have the problem.
As JW suggested, set it up with no security, which i did. The wireless bubble appears on the taskbar, it advises me i am trying to connect to an insecure network, i click 'connect', but then nothing happens, i dont actually get a connection, after about 10 seconds, the bubble just reappears telling me network connections are avaliable, i click connect, rinse & repeat, i cant open a web browser eithter during this time.
I tried it with different security types, and again, epic failure.
Any ideas? Im inclined to think the laptop is the problem, as when i opened services.msc, the wireless connection was at 'stop'. after telling it to start, it started for a few mins, then stopped again, but i think ive got it always on now, with a restart.
I think this is just going to be easier for a new laptop isnt it? Its always been a load of crap anyway. Dell, you disappoint me.
Im not rining Orange either, as i know what the answer is, and to be honest, i never ring call centres, the interent does a much better job.
Laptop running XP, i believe SP1, desktop running Vista.
Ok, ok i think im getting somewhere. Appears it just wasnt in pairing mode, i pressed 1, it connects fine, problem is, IE wont connect to the interent. The USB and the livebox are talking and connected, but how the hell do i get online?
Ive run the internet connection wizard, keeps failing me, just wont seem to add the new conn
Nah, it aint got a firewall, its an old XP SP1.... Its worked before, just cant master it.
"Internet explorer could not open the search page" Is the error IE gives me.... Its some stupid crappy little internet connection setting on the laptop, it must be, as the L.Box and USB are talking away nicely :@
When i right click the two computer monitors in the taskbar, it says connection to livebox, excellent, but then when i go to view avaliable wireless networks, the box is blank, no connect or configure button at all.
Its annoying, cause the bloody thing is connected to the livebox.
The 169.*.*.* address means its not picking up its IP address from the DHCP service on the livebox. It should have an IP address of 192.168.1.*
The default gateway should be 192.168.1.1.
When you type ipconfig /all does it have the following settings under your wireless port:
^Both are listed as yes, like your post says so. What livebox settings shall i post? I dont think the livebox is the issue, they are paired, with a strong excellent connection. Its somewhere on the laptop, connection wise im certain.
i also right clicked the connection, and clicked 'repair', to which i got:
"TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection, Cannot proceed"
It sounds like the wireless isn't connected. The signal strength is sometimes measured on unconnected wifi connections depending on the drivers for your wifi interface. Did you press button one on the livebox and enter the Wep key to make the connection ?
The Livebox Stats aren't relevant since you already have a computer connected through it. Its purely a wireless thing.
Yeah, initially i couldnt get them connected, the connection was ALWAYS unavalaible, then i paired them up using button 1, and now it says excellent strength all the time.
