Surely that cannot be right? I am on an 8 meg line!
I'm afraid your test speeds are quite good by Orange's usual standards!
Many people struggle to get a connection at all with them and then when they eventually do they get a pathetic service like you're getting.
Best thing is to move to a real ISP to get proper fast speeds.
I phoned them last night and the indian IT guru said it was a problem with my account in the Exchange, and for me to ring back today to get through to the relevant dept.
I rang today and the advisor said that my low speed was a result of me passing my MAC code to o2 (now Sky)! I told her that I have had this for the last 2 weeks and only passed my MAC code to them on Wednesday! The only reason why I am moving is because of the dial up speeds I am getting whilst only being a mile from the exchange!
I soon got too fed up and hung up!
I feel sorry for the rest of you who are stuck on contract with such a diabolical company.
So far in the last 10 months I have had 2 months with no broadband [PPP Server Down]. A faulty Livebox which Orange would not replace, which resulted in me paying for an £80 router which fixed the problem, now this speed problem.
I am sure that Orange broadband will soon crumble, and all of its customers will migrate to a proper ISP. Orange broadband will soon die, especially with the current economic climate.
If your reading this Orange, I am spreading the word to other potential customers to never darken your door. I suggest you employ some knowledgeable engineers to completely overhaul your network, sack all of your management and adopt a new focused structure layout, and lastly but most importantly bring your 1st line support back to the UK and employ some skilled IT technicians who do not need to read through endless scripts in order to fix a simple problem.

Ive heard of some excuses but that takes the biscuit lol, i wonder if they just drag these people off the street and sit them down and say when a call comes in answer it and tell them anything, by todays standards they should at least train the support staff to know the basics, they are probably concentrating on the money they make through support calls but that won't last much longer as a majority of ISP's support is now free.
Anyway at least you will be leaving therm shortly

Indeed that exuse really does exceed even Orange's usual bull.
They never cease to amaze me.....
I was with them until 3 years ago when I lost my connection with them, got the usual excuses etc so I left.
I am with o2 (now Sky) and they are absolutely fantastic.
Very fast, stable connection, no drop outs and excellent free, ENGLISH SPEAKING customer support.
You will be very pleased once you join o2 (now Sky) and glad you're getting sorted soon anyway.
I always spread the word about Orange's disgraceful service as they deserve to go under.

Be careful cos if you cancel your DD they will cut off your broadband and it will affect your migration to 02, wait till you have been actually connected to 02.

Look HERE ive posted a list of 3 speedtests, if you do 3 speedtests from 3 different sites at different times during day and especially the evening during peak times say, then you can average your results out between the 3.

I know Steve, it was just the shock of having a 40Mb connection reported...... in the test I ran..... <roflmao>
As I have been saying to Orange, Customer Service and Tech, the connection is not the issue, but the QoS they are expecting us to accept.
The Orange servers, are either overloaded or badly managed.
I'm positively thrilled with my test results- not 116kbps dowload and 115kbps upload
They are not exactly consistent as I have just done another 5 minutes later which suggests my download is 60 times faster than the above result and an upload speed of 234kbps. That surely is a mistake, or a fluke
I have just this minute switched to o2 (now Sky)'s ADSL 2+ service and the browsing speed is absolutely lightening. I click on a link and within a milisecond the next screen is there. Its quicker than some of my customer networks all for £7 a month!
