I'm OK with computers but not with Internet connection matters so need some advice:
I have a wired Livebox that is 2 years old on my main computer. I have just bought a wi-fi laptop but cannot use a wireless set-up as I live in an old long house with walls 2 feet thick and plenty of steel joists.
I have read that Homeplugs may be the answer but I dont understand the basic concept........
Do I need to buy a new wi-fi router to use Homeplugs or can I use my existing Livebox?
Does my main computer need to be turned on for my laptop to connect to the web?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Home plugs are ideal for your situation HERE is a diagram of how it works, Very Happy

Most come with 2 plugs you might be able to get some with 3 included otherwise you will have to by the extra plugs you need.

You can use whatever router you like as usual.

btw you can get them a lot cheaper than that site if you look around try
