Okay, this is how to set up your Playstation 3 for online play, without setting your firewall security to 'low'.
First of all, go to http://configuration.adsl and log in. (Default username is admin and password is admin - consider changing it if you haven't.) Click 'Configuration', 'Advanced', 'Wireless'. Here, take note of the Livebox name: Like Orange - 0000 or WANADOO-0000 and change the security to 'WEP security only'. (This will be changed back once the livebox is paired). Also, changed the wireless pairing time to '--' (unlimited). Again, you can change with back once the Livebox is paired with the PS3. Click Submit.
Then, go to 'Security', 'Wireless Connection'. Note down your WEP secturity key. 26 characters long, eg: 0123456789ABCDEF1234567
Go to your PS3 Cross Media Bar (XMB), go to settings, network settings, Internet Connection Settings. Say yes when it says you will be disconnected (may not appear if connecting first time).
Select wireless.
Select scan.
A list of wireless networks should appear. Select the one with the SSID of your Livebox name (ORANGE-0000, etc.) and the security should be WEP. Signal strength should be at least 30% for a continuous connection. If not, move the Livebox closer to the PS3 or open a few doors.
Select this wireless network.
Check the SSID. and continue.
In WLAN Security Setting, select WEP.
Type in the 26 character WEP key. (Use the L2 button to shift to the numbers faster)
Continue and select 'Easy'.
Test connection should then work.
Also remembered to press button one on the back of the "livebox" this puts it in pairing mode so you can then connect to it......
Surely it supports WPA security?
Also there's no need for the infinite pairing time, you should just need to press the 1 button on the livebox so the antenna light is flashing while it makes it's first connection. It flashes for 10 minutes, just press the button again if needed.
after entering the WEP key it says "checking network configuration please wait", I then have a IP Address Setting Menu, I choose Manual, then it gives me a menu with IP Address 0.0.0.0, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Default Router 0.0.0.0, Primary DNS 0.0.0.0, Secondary DNS 0.0.0.0
I change the IP Address to the one i got from the Livebox 192.168.1.132
After that I'm lost.......the options are to edit, or cancel or I can go back to previous options.
Where do I go from here, do I need to change any Default Router or Primary/Secondary DNS settings??
Thanks
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Strange it worked first try for me.
Try this longer version of the guide I found on here. Let us know how you get on.
If after you type in the WEP and you are offered selections like manual, automatic and this does not work the first time then change the channel number on the livebox to a different one (Channels 11 and 6 would not work but 8 did ). Should this work then you will not be offered the extra options after the WEP key and your 4 hour nightmare, if you were like me, will be over.
PS as at the time of writing the Orange home help and support is totally usless for PS3. Do they even know it exists???
I've been having difficulties with my PS3 connection for the last couple of days and I'm completely stumped - I've followed all the guides and it just isn't happening! If anyone can advise I'd very grateful
So, here's the scenario:
Last Christmas I got my PS3, after a few days of using a wired connection my sister sugegsted I made it wireless. A fair enough suggestion, I set about trying to connect the PS3 with the livebox. After a few failed attempts, I left it and told my Sister (somewhat of an expert at setting up wireless networks for some reason!) and she pointed out that I hadn't pressed the "1" button the Livebox. Sure enough, she did it all when I was away for a few days and said it was "dead easy." This has given me no problem at all...until last week.
I'm not a big online gamer but the one game I do play online is PES 2008 and now 2009. The servers are less than brilliant but they're passable at least. I played late Tuesday evening and found no problems whatsoever, and then I tried on Thursday and I couldn't connect to anyone. I assumed this to be a one off, and tried again on Sunday - with the same problems occuring.
Now, the only difference between Tuesday and Thursday is that I purchased Little Big Planet for my Sister and she decided it was best she had her own username on the PS3 - surely that won't cause problems? And yet that's the only change.
The PES networknig system is this - players create rooms, when gonig to join that room, a light will flash next to their name:
Green - Brilliant (this never happens)
Yellow - This is what it used to be!
Orange - Poor
Red - Horrific
And of course these colours flash, and I've noticed when I'm looknig these are going absolutely mad - Going from yellow then crashing back down to Orange, which implied to me that my wireless signal was having trouble. The signal strength on the PS3 is 100%, and my laptop works wirelessly from a greater distance (I was getting d/l speeds of 120kb/s on Sunday) The PS3 is about 5 yards from the Livebox.
My next step was to try a wired connection - and the same thing was happening. So I concluded the wireless signal is not the problem. So I'm now thinking maybe Orange are having some issues in the North East?(where I live) Failing that, perhaps I've used too much bandwidth this month? I've really no idea - I've not been notified if so! I did a speed test on speedtest.net and everything seemed fine - speed up at 5.5mb and download at 360kbs I think it was. I even did the Konami "is your connection suitable for PES" test and was in the top bracket :S
I've tried with every other device switched off as well, still no joy.
To make matetrs worse, I can't set the wireless back up - assigning the IP automatically faily and doing it manualyl manages to assign an IP but then can't establish the Internet Connection
