Im at work and just tried to forward an email to my freeserve account...it bounced back saying that *****.freeserve.co.uk domain could not be contacted. anyone having the same problems?
Of course the problem is we hang on to our original email addresses for continuity and sometimes pay the consequences.
I have kept my freeserve address for many years after I left wanadoo or whatever it was at the time, just logging on the payg whenever I needed to.
It says a lot about the inadequate state of Orange customer service when a site like this is required to do what Orange should be doing.
I am glad I left years ago and am now with BE (o2 (now Sky)) and generally getting a much superior service and speed. There are always a few issues with any ISP and in BE's case DNS problems but at least they have a good customer forum where their staff answer your complaints directly as well as a ticketing system.
Perhaps there is an ISP out there who could take over old or redundant email addresses and continue the service in an efficient way for a small charge...an opportunity for someone.

I'm in the process of migrating my mail service to (o2 (now Sky)) - more of a nuisance to all those in my contacts - but also useful to clean up various online identities.
Like you I've stayed with my Freeserve account for so long but now seems like a good time to move - and in some way I'm sure Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve will be grateful since I'm not paying for any other service. However I'm not sure my wife will be best pleased, she is way to busy with trying to run her business in these credit crunch times.
Hey ho, onwards and upwards!
UPDATE
I'm keeping this thread going although masqueraid's issue is similar/same
I can now access Orange.co.uk which I couldn't do last evening
I cannot access my freeserve mail account from the web
I cannot access my incoming mail server (i.e. pop.freeserve.com) using lan connection to o2 (now Sky) (Be unlimited)
I have been able to download mail from my freeserve email account using old dial up which I kept for just this eventuality - OMG how did we cope with sub-50 kb/s!!!
One slight concern from reading other posts is that other o2 (now Sky) users report similar events so hope it's not them since I've just moved!!! If anyone is having probs accessing freeserve/wanadoo email account and is with another ISP (NOT o2 (now Sky)) pls post here so that I can be certain it's an Orange issue not an o2 (now Sky) issue.
I cannot access any freeserve emails either, I am on o2 (now Sky).
I've tried to download the dialup settings from Orange but the file won't install, does anybody happen to have the dialup number and any other settings I may need to download my emails?
Have had this problem since Friday morning, and couldn;t even access the Orange site on Friday.
I've tried to download the dialup settings from Orange but the file won't install, does anybody happen to have the dialup number and any other settings I may need to download my emails?
thanks in advance
Try this number: 0845 0796699 for setting up dial-up internet connection
also, incoming mail server is pop.freeserve.co.uk
you will also need your freeserve username, ie whatever is after the @
e.g. my email address is *****@benglan.freeserve.co.uk so the username I use when prompted is benglan.freeserve.co.uk
I have been having the same problem for the last 48 hours. I have an old freeserve account which I was using with dial up until I changed to o2 (now Sky) broadband and then continued to use my freeserve address. I can currently send emails but cant receive them via pop3 or by accessing the Orange site and attempting to download there.
Does anybody know if this is a temporary problem with Orange or permanent blocking. I havent used dial up for a year now but reactivated the account when prompted by Orange earlier this year.
If anyone has any views on the subject I would be most grateful. The thought of changing my email address doesnt bear thinking about!!!!!
+ The phone number for Orange PAYG if you are in need of urgent emails is 08440564000 - If you have caller ID blocked on your line you should put 1470 08440564000 in the Phone number section in your Dial Up Properties.
Rec'd the following from Orange but cld not access 1st URL

Still with Freeserve after all these years but recently moved to o2 (now Sky) (from Pipex) for broadband - brilliant customer service!

I have been unable to receive e-mails via Freeserve for two days. I left Orange about 6 months ago and went to Be but retained my Freeserve address. I rang Orange yesterday and after being sent from pillar to post they claimed my PC was at fault. It was reassuring to hear that so many other people are having the same problem. I left Orange because their customer service was so bad. I've now sent e-mails to everyone in my address book and told them to send to my Be account. What a useless provider Orange is!
The flaw in this strategy is that I will never consider Orange for any of my future needs - mobile, web or anything else in the future. Well done to the big cheese who thought, 'how can we free up the server space that old freeserve and wanadoo accounts are taking up?...'
Thankfully can still dial-up to get freeserve mail but is it only a matter of time for that option to disappear? I am partway through migrating my mail but that still leaves my wife's account (which includes a business address routed through freeserve so imagine how pleased I am with what I'm having to do!)
