I have a network of 2 desktops (cabled to Livebox) and a laptop (wireless).
I switched on the main desktop pc only to find I had no internet connection (web or Outlook). My first action was to switch the Livebox off for a few minutes as that's often the answer. After that failed, I restarted the pc. Still no joy.
I switched on the 2nd pc and it's fine - both web and Outlook working fine (the laprop is also fine). And there was n email from Orange!:

Hello
We've finished making the changes we emailed you about and you're now getting up to 6.0 Meg broadband.

Needless to say, Orange never emailed me about upcoming speed increases! And indeed, my speedtest results have gone from around 2.9mb/s to 4.5mb/s - which would be great if all my computers were able to use it!
So, what should I do next? I've done the following:
1: restarted pc several times
2: restarted Livebox more than once
3: checked for updated motherboard ethernet drivers (none available)
4: checked device manager for problems with ethernet connection (none shown)
5: checked local network connection (I can access the other computers fully)
6: tried safe mode with networking (problem still the same)
7: connected problem pc to working pc's cable and Livebox port (again, problem remains)
8: tried with firewall switched off (no change).
I can't try a system restore because I forgot to turn it back on after I last had to disable it And BT speedtester is too busy right now to check my profile. I can however log in to the Livebox from the problem pc.
So, as far as I can see, the problem is hardware-related but it seems a big coincidence it happened at the same time I was upgraded in speed. I can't see why it should have happened like that but I'd welcome any useful advice, thanks.
Windows XP pro; Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 m/board (with nvidia ethernet port); Firefox and IE and Outlook.

Thanks for the reply. So does that mean using the "MTU and RWIN Tweaks" pages? And if so, do I just follow the recommendations there? I can understand the concept of what it all means even if I don't understand all the technicalities behind it.
I've tried a couple of the settings so far with no success yet.
Edit: I've edited my original post to add that I'm on the Dean Exchange (which is LLU-enabled).
After nothing else worked, I decided to uninstall the ethernet driver and restart Windows. After Windows had automatically re-installed the same driver, everything was working again!
BUT, as soon as I re-entered my static IP numbers in the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"Properties section, the problem re-occured. I've been using those settings for months without issue. Is it likely they've changed because of the speed increase? (The other computers are set to obtain their addresses automatically which would explain why they were unaffected).
If you can access the internet using IP addresses instead of domain names, then your DNS server settings will be the culprit.
It was indeed the DNS servers. Obviously, the act of upping my speed to ADSL2+ resulted in the DNS server addresses being changed.
I've now managed to set up my static IP with the new DNS settings.
Well, 10 days later and, apart from the first day, I've never received a speed higher than around 33300kb/s so I've only had a 400kb/s increase. Wow!
Maybe I need to try more of the MTU and RWIN settings.
Now that I'm on ADSL2+, does that mean LLU and therefore that the BT speedtester will no longer work for me? I've certainly had no luck trying it at any time of day or night.
