I was told my line could only support 1mbps (which is total rubbish) So I told orange I was switching to another provider and insisted they give me a MAC code and within 15 minutes my line was running at 3.5mbps.
You don't need to do anything with the MAC code (it will expire after 30 days anyway), but just asking was enough for them to un-cap my line.
