My connection has been slow for some days now and it's almost unusable. It took me 17mins to download thunderbird email client (6.5 ish MB) without any net browsing.
My speedtests return under 0.1mb, mainly around the 130kbps mark. My upload is around the 400k mark.
I get these stats from the router :
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 16.7
Attenuation (dB) : 13.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 10944
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 8128 448
I've changed filters, cables, switched to wired connection etc and always the same rubbish speeds.
Does anyone have any suggestions or able to offer any insight based in the stats above?
Post your stats again after plugging the livebox directly into the test socket behind the faceplate of the main BT linebox with no other telephony plugged in.
OK, that's very similar to the previous stats so your property cabling would seem to be good.
Now run www.speedtester.BT.com and post all the data from that. You need to use your broadband username (not your email address) which is something like yourname.orangehome.co.uk@fs.
You may have to try several times to access the BT site as it does get busy.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 114 kbps
It's more probable that you've had some recent line instability where the noise has cause the profile to drop in order to stabilise the connection. This is possible because your SNRM is around 16dB and it should be <10dB on Max when there are no line problems.
Leave it for 4 or 5 days, keep a daily monitor on the speedtester.BT site and you should see the profile return to a more normal setting.
If it doesn't then either there is a line fault between you and the exchange or the profile is stuck. Either way you'll need Orange to sort it with BT
