Ok first things first, I wanted to get a new hard drive for my computer and do a fresh install of Windows on it, but keep the original connected so I can move my files over. Obviously that was unplugged when I installed Windows (blah blah) onto the new drive, then reconnected later as a slave.. no problems at all. Everything but Media Player is behaving (what else is new?), I decide it's time to resetup my Orange account to start the lengthly process of Windows updates and downloading those blasted codecs for Media Player/Movie Maker.
That's where my "adventure" stops as it wont even get through the setup process.
I do still have a windows installation on my old C drive (now my E), Orange is still installed on that but naturally it's not supposed to work. I'm concerned that it is conflicting with the E installation. Everything else I've installed there's been no conflicts with the original installs on the other drive. I planned to get everything off the original master drive and then format it completely, but I really wanted to get my new master drive working fully before doing so (just in case).
I have a Speedtouch 300 USB modem, it appears to work perfectly, the two green lights are on, the drivers installed ok (eventually). I put in my username and password during the setup, it then sometimes complains about a kernel.dll file not being accessible. Not that it matters, when the error doesn't come up I still get the same problem. When it gets to the point where it's connecting to the modem (step 4 I believe), it doesn't do a damned thing for a long, long time.
My only theory as I can be a bit "blonde" is that the original installation is conflicting with the new one. I said earlier that no other programs gave me the same trouble. I need a second opinion badly as I obviously have no clue Do I just reformat the old master drive and attempt to install Orange again, or could something else be causing the problem. Please help.
If anyone's curious, I'm not posting cos I switched my hard drives back around.. I'm at work my bad ^_^

Hi
I sort off get what you mean but first what do you mean by "install Orange"
Also every time you boot up the Windows files on the old drive will also become "active" and you will find some of the files will be a bugger to delete, so i would say get all the files you need from the old drive to the new one and format your old drive, then you can either leave it where it is for more storage or get a drive enclosure and use it as external storage.

I just mean setting up Orange (again) onto the new drive. Meh it's still early in the morning for me
See that's what I was worried about, I didn't fancy formatting it until the new one got the all clear. True it works perfectly except for the lack of internet and codecs to play any of my videos on WMP Oh well, can't be helped. Thanks for the fast reply.
One question that has bugged me, Windows always likes to butt in with installations that I've already started. I can't remember if Windows itself installed the Speedtouch modem the last time first, the lights were red and flashing before I did it (I attempted the Orange setup disk first, hoping that it would include the driver installation). I assumed it did something wrong as I just started getting the kernel error everytime I ran the setup disk.
Question is this after formatting the original C drive, should I try uninstalling the modem and let the setup disk do everything, which last time resulted in just the modem blinking red lights at me. Or do I just let Windows install the driver first, then run the setup disk, which I did the second time and instead just had the green lights.. error and no response? I always got stuck at the same point either way ^_^ My memory is crap, I can't remember what I did the last time.

Just get all your files over to your new drive, format the hard drive and you can put them back on the newly formatted drive so you have a back up.
And when you have done that if you still get any probs completely uninstall any programmes your getting errors with, use Revo Uninstaller from HERE its free, it will completely get rid of any bits of the programmes that are left, reboot and reinstall them.
Good luck

I'm just having another bad memory moment where I'm not sure wether to let Windows install the modem's driver first, then use the setup disk.. OR to just let the setup disk take care of everything.

You would be better off installing it without the dreaded set up disc that also installs a lot of unnecessary crap from Orange, their bundled software causes nothing but problems.
I would uninstall it using Revo because the modem leaves loads of files behind after Revo will delete all of them, when your uninstalling it after you have started Revo and the modem software askes you if you want to reboot choose "no" then Revo will scan for all the leftover files and prompt you to delete them.
btw a router is a much better option than a modem which doesn't need drivers on your pc.

Ah you see, I did try setting up the connection without it as a "desperate resort" . It wouldn't work either, I didn't really mention it as I'm not at home and I don't remember the error that came up when I tried to connect with it. I probably missed something when I set it up.
I'm sorry, I feel like I'm bugging you now. I can set up a dialup connection just fine, but there was a reason why I use the set up disk for this. I have no clue other than the name of the connection, username and password, what to put in.
I need to stop editing my posts, sorry. *goes to edit back and put in this one instead*
Yeah it's XP.
To set up an new connection, you go into manage Network Connections, then it gives you all these choices. The first one is duh, connect to internet.. then it gives me choices I'm not sure about:
It's obviously not the last one, I tried the second one first.. it didn't work (scary that I'm ok with certain parts with computers, but internet connections really show me off as a computer newb), the first one asked for a phone number which I don't know What to do?
The old C drive is unplugged (it was getting too damn hot anyways :S even when it wasn't in use), I ended up having to reformat the new drive anyways (long story and unrelated) so I installed the drivers you linked to. First time was a bust, so I re did it and it connects just fine if you use the Speedtouch Connection. I tried making a new connection manually, that one doesn't seem to work, I get the same error as I got before.
The error says the destination or something (darn I forgot it again) is wrong, sorry not exactly sure, but that's the jist of it. It doesn't matter, I can get connected anyway. I just wish my computer would start discovering all the Windows Updates it will need doing, Internet Explorer 7 would be nice too
