My DELL Inspiron laptop with DELL wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI card will connect wirelessly to my work network, and to my collegues home wireless, but will NOT connect to my home Orange wireless Livebox by any means.
I have 4 other computers (1 laptop, and 3 desktop) , plus an Xbox360 all happily wirelessly working at home thru the Livebox, but the Inspiron will not connect, either using the internal 1370 card, or 2 other USB wireless adaptors, which i know work when connected to the home desktops.
I'm running XP pro, version 2002, service pack 2, and have the latest update from DELL for the BIOS (A10) and the Driver for 1370 WLAN card.
Anyone got any ideas to try ??? Thanks, hair starting to fall out !!!

UNABLE TO CONNECT WITH WIRELESS:
Are you pressing Button 1 on Livebox to put it into pairing mode? I suspect you have this one covered.
Press Button 1 on Livebox so the wifi light flashes. This puts livebox into pairing mode and you have 10 minutes to try and connect your wireless device . This only needs to be done once and then you should be able to connect every time .
I had to change security on Livebox to WEP only.
WEP key is case sensitive.
If security is an issue WPA is more secure, try WPA only.
You could also try Changing the channel. One recommended to try is channel 9. Try this first if you can not see the Livebox at all.
Another issue is if there are 2 programmes on the computer that you are trying to connect trying to control the wireless. Turn off the programme that came with the wireless card and use XP to control the connection.
many thanks for the suggestion(s) keithwjones !!
I had sucess by methodically following the link you gave.
Essentially did this ...
1. there were 2 programmes on the computer that try to connect and to control the wireless. Turn off the programme that came with the wireless card and use XP to control the connection.
2. Run "services.msc" , and start and restart the wireless connection
3. log into the Livebox with a PC wired connection, you need to 'wired' because if you alter the wireless settings you will need to be able to log in again !!
4. selected "admin" for both the user and password.
5. selected "connfigutation" followed by "wireless" and "advanced".
6. Change the security settings. First of all I selected "No security". and let the livebox reboot for a couple of minutes.
7. Tried the Inspiron laptop, with livebox in pairing mode, and SUCCESS, connection made !!!
8. Went back into the Livebox setup (from the wired PC) and this time set security to "WEP only", and let the livebox reboot for a couple of minutes.
9. Tried the Inspiron laptop, with livebox in pairing mode, re-entered the WEP key capitals only, and SUCCESS, connection made !!!
10. I went on to try WPA and WEP/WPA but this upset the other PCs & xBox on the home system, so went back to WEP only. And all worked fine.
I have no explanation, but there is definately somthing achieved by taking the security to 'none' and then building back up to the security level you want ... hope this helps others !!!!
