I've had Orange Broadband Unlimited for nearly a year now and have had nothing but trouble starting with the router disconnecting every 7 mins to not working at all for days. However up until now when the router has been connected i've been getting reasonable speeds however now it is noticeably slower to the point where i can no longer play xbox live and a 500mb video off itunes takes days to download.
I have had no luck with CS so i'm looking here for some inspiration!
My iMac is connected to my router wirelessly (about 1.5m away) to theBT main socket i've changes the ADSL filters and line numerous times. here are my routers stats:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 30.3
Attenuation (dB) : 28.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6624
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 576 288
i don't have a clue what is good (or bad) only that i'm seriously considering asking for my MAC code.
With a 30.3dB Noise Margin and an Attenuation of 28.0 you should be seeing around 5800kbps rather than the 576 that the router is showing.
Many others have seen similar stats and it's probable that Orange for some reason only known to themselves, have increased the target SNR on your LLU to reduce your connection speed.
You mention downloading video.....you haven't exceeded the FUP allowance have you ?
i would be very surprised if i've exceeded 20gb a month let alone the 40-50gb that people suspect to be the threshold. wouldn't it be an exact 512 downstream if i have been capped? and i've never received a letter to say i've been capped?
Then it's more likely that Orange have done to you what they've done to quite a few others who have posted on here and "throttled" your connection by manipulating the SNR.
As a matter of interest are you on a basic broadband package or a phone/broadband one ?

phone them and check. You should've had a letter though if your speed is being controlled
I have spoken to Orange twice in the last fortnight about the reduced speeds ive been getting and they have failed to help, just the same old check filter / reset router over and over again.
would the have told me then if i have been capped or not? it seems strange that im not capped to exactly 512 doesnt it?
I'm afraid the only way to get the maximum connection speed on your line is to love to a real ISP.
In your first post you mentioned about getting your MAC code - that's the way to go.
There have been so many people on here, including myself, who move to a real ISP and immediately get a fast stable connection after the jokes with Orange's pathetic service.
What is the general feeling of BT Total as an ISP. I dont mind paying the money if im getting a reliable, fast connection. The reason im stuck with Orange in the first place is because i was thinking with my wallet!

I have 2 members of my family with BT speeds slow to a crawl in evenings due to throttling, they are waiting for their contracts to end to get out, also BT is involved with Phorm monitering your surfing habits to point advertising to your searching.
HERE
Google Phorm to read more about it.

I was with Orange/Wannado/Freeserve for a long time and got that fed up with them that I have changed to Sky, since then speeds have been constant, no dropped connections and I don't have to speak to that stupid helpline.
