If you are still 608 - just check steps below but I think you have probably done that.
Then suggest that you ask for MAC code at which point you will be put through to UK, then explain that you do not wish to leave but 608 is not acceptable.
Which exchange are you on? Please confirm that you are not abusing download limits.
Consider whether your line is capable of a higher speed. If you are a long way from the exchange you may be obtaining your best speed. Check here and tell us what BT say about the speed you can get:

Check your line hasn't been capped because you exceed the download limit. There are reports that Orange are putting the cap on all the time instead of the hours of 6pm til midnight.

I am on the wythenshawe exchange. I have never abused download limits. I just wish I had the chance to. I probably download less than 5gig a month. The speed at the moment is not the issue, i just want a stable line. Disconnecting every 2 minutes means i cant download anything at any speed.
As i said, i have put in a brand new filter. I have changed the modem cable that goes from filter to livebox. I have no extensions in the house and no other telephony devices. i have taken the master socket of the wall and checked all connections. I have no Sky to interfere with the signal.
608 download has always been on since Orange took over. I had 1.1 meg steady for several months. Orange took over and one morning i noticed a sync speed of 608. It stayed like that for a year until recently when it fluctuates wildly but still stays very low.
The router settings are absolutely right, and i have tried using a zyxel router and a speedtouch 330 and a siemens speedstreem 410. None of them make any significant difference. BT say my line is capable of at least 3.5 meg. Even Orange say that themselves.
When i go to Orange member centre and click on "improve your speed" I do get the strange message "error we cannot obtain any information on the speed of this line". It used to say "you are on the greatest speed your line can support".
I think it is time to demand a MAC code. I am tempted to cancel the direct debit and take them to court.
Just rang Orange and picked the home phone option. A nice guy, who seemed to know his stuff, did some checks and says the line is "siezed". Not sure what this means but he said there some kind of problem on the circuit that is affecting the signal.
He is trying to get it sorted and told me to ring the provisioning and home phone teams to get some kind of timeframe.
Erm why did this siezed result never come out before? Im not getting my hopes up, but this really is their last chance.
Looks as though you have UK support, so you should get a result.
But be firm 608 is not an acceptable speed - there is a problem or they have capped you.
Keith
Oh yes I agree. I made 3 complaints to the ISPA about the cap but Orange never even contacted me.
However, I think the cap is gone, like i say it is syncig at different speeds and I once got that sync speed of 3200kbps. In around february march I was downloading at 2 meg, so the cap itself actually seemed to go in january. It was definitely capped for a year before that.
What fraudsters they are. I was planning to leave them but the retentions department persuaded me into the new contract by saying I would go up to 8 meg and the digital TV would be coming. That was in december. Ripping off b******, who wouldnt even let me out of the contract when I realised, one day in, that I was still on 608.
This sounds like a PSTN cease. This occurs when BT disconnect your telephone line, usually for 1 of 4 reasons. Either you have changed your phone number (often due to malicious calls) or you have changed the name of the BT account holder, or your BT line was disconnected due to late or non or non-payment and then reinstated, or sometimes BT disconnect the line in error and then put it on again. When the line is disconnected for whatever reason, BT remove the broadband marker, and the providing ISP need informing so they can request BT to reprovision the broadband. If this is done on the same day as the reconnection of the BT phone line then your broadband would be up and running within a few hours, however if the ISP are not notified within 24 hours it may take up to 10 days to reconnect. This often happens when people move address and don't inform the ISP.
I suggest you speak to the Specialist Provisioning Team, and ask them to check your line on the BT Tags system. and also check that the CBUK number on your account matches that on the BT database.

Ive been told to ring special provisioning tomorrwow so ill be on to them first thing.
Dont think its to do with BT because they were off the line in december when I got the home max package. there is both voice and broadband on the line. It just wont sync for more than a few seconds. I can still make calls ok etc
I'm not sure that they've capped me. The last time they capped me it was obvious because the sync speed was high but the download rate was low.
Since 11th Aug my sync speed varies but never gets above 4000 (was min of 5700).
I think I'm in for a battle (again) because I have stats over the past year that prove my line (was/is) capable of sustaining 4.5M.
Shame about the pier...

After threatening to get a MAC code, orange are finally sending an engineer to my house. The snooty woman on the phone was warning me that it would cost 70 quid if it proves to be at my end. How many times does she need to be told that we only have a master socket and one telephone and have tried 6 filters and 4 routers???
Anyway, the engineer will soon see the problems we have. I did a quiet line test on 17070 and the crackling on the line was ridiculous.
The woman was still insisting that all their line tests showed no problems, despite the guy telling me yesterday their was a fault. Just how much evidenc do they need that there is a fault?
Wow Keith!
So you have had a similar problem then, your speed has dropped off from 6.3 on 17th Aug, then 4.5 on 25th Aug and now 2.0 today - do I understand that right??
It wasn't that long ago we were praising the speed increase when they went to ADSL2+...
Do you think we should start a new thread on this issue, rather than bloat/hijack this one?
Cheers, Nick
