I've a funny feeling the ftp/freeserve route is long gone and if it isn't it soon will be
It's still there, but you will need to disable the Livebox firewall to access it.
I have just moved my Orange FTP site over to my Freeserve webspace, where I had my original website.
Orange never managed to answer why the Livebox blocks access to it, but all you have to do is access the Livebox settings and set the firewall to LOW, effectively disabling it, upload your files to your freeserve webspace, then reset the Livebox firewall to whatever you had it set to. I have custom settings, and it remembered these when i reset to "custom".

Thanks very much for the input,mrt.
I've just checked a few old links and a few pages of stuff with my original Freeserve url are STILL online so obviously they are still being hosted. I'm definitely gonna check this further-

Thanks for the info I've joined 110mb and have moved two of my sites there and have left links on the Orange FTP Mysite but when I came to leave links on the new Website Maker I only seem to have one site and I need four, I can create as many sites as I need but can only get one address is that right or am I doing something wrong? there seems to be a total lack of help pages in Website Maker.

I contacted Orange support about this same subject at the beginning of this month. I asked;
"How many sites can I migrate before the service changes? I've done one and it won't let me do any more?"
They answered;
"Unfortunately, the automatic photo migration feature can only be applied to
one website (out of the ones that were managed under one login/e-mail
account), as the new Website Maker will only host one single site per login at
this stage. Multiple Website Maker sites would require multiple logins (i.e.
under alternative e-mail addresses).
Crystal clear, eh?
I take it to mean you can have more than one crappy Website-Maker site, but each one must be registered under a different email addy. Obviously this isn't impossible but it's still a lot more hassle than the old system where you could have several sites and update them all from the one (FTP MySite) page.
Is the "original" 15MB "uploads.webspace.freeserve.net" affected by this change or not???? The email is less than clear. If so, I need to find new hosting, and quick before they delete all the data on Monday!
Well I have had a go at the new Orange site builder tool, bloody awful, it was a meet your mugger kind of experience ending in total disappointment the ftp community is being closed down for that .....
if your from Orange and your reading this then know this, you really have lost your minds.
update:
After moving to 110mb.com things seemed a bit dodgy at first because although the moving was painless they did have a couple of crashes with their server which left no access for a while, but that seems to be in the past now because things seem stable again.
Their servers are not as fast as Orange but then it is all free.
If anything i am happy that at least mysite lives on rather than being killed off by oranges faceless bureaucrats.

I'm finding 110mb very slow on photos and a PDF file crashed Firefox probably because it didn't load fast enough. I suppose we've been spoilt by the excellent, it has to be said, reliability that we're used to from Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange, so what do I expect for nothing! the fact is we were paying for this service which we are about to loose. I also tried the new website maker it's awful, I can't get it to scroll down if I put objects at the bottom of the page they're not there on preview. If this tool is supposed to help people with no experience I can't see it because there's no help or how to do pages!

I have been with freeserve from the start then through wanadoo into Orange and got nothing for my loyalty, the only thing keeping me with Orange was the ftp site now that's gone I'm also looking for another ISP as there are much cheaper ones now, I'm paying nearly 20 quid a month for this 1 meg connection, any suggestions?
if your looking for good hot linking hosting I seem to be getting on OK with fileden.com Unfortunately it wont do code hosting but anything else seems OK.
You get one gig of webspace, five gig bandwidth per month and it's free.

Presumably they received complaints from users whose websites suddenly dematerialised. I eventually received my email telling me that the service was being dropped on July 23rd - five days before the scheduled cut-off date. Now as it happens, I already knew because I saw the OP here Three weeks before Orange bothered to let me know, but I'm guessing that a relatively low proportion of Orange users visit this site on a regular basis, and of those that do some may have missed this thread.
I amazes me that these people can't even send out an email to all registered users (for whatever service - not just Mysite), although I've noticed on several occasions that this seems to be the case.
