got a drop in synch rate - typically 3MB now down to less than 1.5MB for the last week. (village location, 3 miles from ADSLmax exchange (Cockermouth, Cumbria))
now paying Orange for line rental - no longer BT landline customer. do I have to go through Orange for a line check or can I try BT fault line?
thought I'd ask prior to hours of headbanging on the phone to customer services....
Consider whether your line is capable of a higher speed. If you are a long way from the exchange you may be obtaining your best speed. Check here and tell us what BT say about the speed you can get:

Check your line hasn't been capped because you exceed the download limit. There are reports that Orange are putting the cap on all the time instead of the hours of 6pm til midnight.
looks like problem is internal and not incoming line.....doh.
went though all the optimisation of wiring last year concluded that mastersocket synch rate ~ extension socket synchrate (~2.5Mbps).
problem looks to be initiated by a new digital phone twinset.
whilst looking at the problem I can see my incoming speed has increased - mastersocket now at ~ 4.6Mbps but faceplate and extentions ~ 2.5Mbps.
With phone re-connected ~ 2.0Mbps.... disconnected Orange ring wire now rate up to ~3.3Mbps at the extension. (reasonably happy with this given our distance from the exchange)
have ordered adslnation pre-filtered sockets (my young kids are just drawn to the standard dangly filters (found one out on the trampoline last week....) and new master faceplate. lets see where we get to. i am concerned that my internal phone cable wiring looks to use the same cable runs as the mains circuits - so I guess extensions will always have a deal of interference to cope with....
