When I switch on the PC it usually connects ok but from time to time the 2 little TVs come up and it says status connected and if I go into properties the sent and receive numbers are changing as though everything is ok but if I go to my home page which is google it will not connect. Doing a try again and a repair some times gets things going but usually not The only way seems to be switching on and reloading a few times to get it working. This is very annoying. Can anyone help I have tried to check that all the correct boxes have been ticked I had problems with the Livebox set up CD so I really would not want to do a complete reset up. I have the main PC connected directly to the Livebox and 2 laptops connected by wireless.
Its not your computer, It will be the Orange servers, My pc is acting up aswell, I have not mail, just comes up cannot access server, msn messenger is not work also (same message) and webpages not displaying, infact the only thing that does work is remote desktop which I am using right not to log into another pc to write this response.
This seems to have started at around 3pm and has happened on a few occasions in the past couple of months.

Go to Start > Network Connections right click on your appropriate connection icon and choose properties
when the window opens scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) highlight it and click "properties" tick Use the following DNS server addresses and put in OpenDNS servers quoted in Borednows post and type them in there click ok then ok again.

I did try to use the open DNS server it came back and asked for the SUBNET MASK when I pressed ok it filled in a SUBNET MASK but left the default gateway blank. Do I just use the old default gateway and supplied subnet mask. When I tried this I could not connect until all restored. Was I just unlucky to hit an Orange down time and try again or any other ideas. Thanks
Same connection problems and speed given as 100.0Mbps at best. Will try other speed tests, I used to get 2 and better. Question. Could Orange be 'managing' the amount of space/speed we are getting? ie Fair useage policy and all of that? My computer say's I am connected but no service. Clicking tools I find the offline box is ofted ticked when I look. Surely the telecoms watchdog should look at Orange as it is voted the bottom of the heap.

Very pleased to know that I am not the only one having this roblem with Orange - my connection drops in and out all day - although I am told in the tray icon that I am connected. If Orange do not do something about this pdq I shall be among those who are jumping ship after many years with Freeserve/Wannadoo and now Orange, the latter of which is causing me to rehearse my vast store of barrack room language!

If your entering OpenDNS servers as described above you only need to fill them in the bottom section, leave the top section to "Obtain IP address automatically".

Thanks Steve, I did as you suggested and all seems well now.
I too have been with Orange since Freeserve days and to be honest it's only just recently that I've been having connection problems, but like others here my connection has started dropping out over the last month or so. Sometimes for a few minutes but yesterday for some hours. It was only by chance that I connected through a dial-up modem to a btinternet account and found that everything connected (painfully slowly) but all computers on the the Freeserve broadband could not connect. I don't know if all providers have these problems or is Freeserve, sorry Orange, particularly prone??

I left Orange in august 2006 was plagued with problems Orange wasn't in the slightest bit interested in solving their network problems as long as they got their monthly money, i havn't had a problem since i left ive been with 2 ISP's since, if they carry on like they are ille give them a year or two and they will probably be bought once Tiscali is sold.
