I am having trouble with Orange and using thunderbird (since they don't offer any help for it especially).
When I try and send an e-mail it can not connect to the SMTP. Can anyone help me with this please?
Thanks in advance.
Change all the smtp's to smtp.orangehome.co.uk who ever the email is eg if it's Tesco then change the smtp to the above but leave the pop 3 as pop.Tesco.net
I too have problems connecting to smtp.orangehome.co.uk but intermittently. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. If I wait long enough (often several hours) the contents of the outbox will eventually be sent. This has been going on for several weeks now - I suspect it may have started around the time my connection was "upgraded" to 8Mbit/sec.
Like everyone else (it seems) I have found the Orange support to be worse than useless. I have only contacted then via email not by phone; they only seem to be capable of blaming the problems on Outlook (I have tried Outlook Express and Thunderbird, but experienced the same problems).
I'm going to buy a domain name to free myself from specific ISPs and then change from Orange to a more reliable ISP. Of course, using your own domain with Orange (for the transition period while everyone gets used to my new email address) will have its own set of problems since Orange blocks all smtp traffic outside its own network, but hopefully I'll find a way around it.
I have much the same issue. Even when I change the smtp server for smtp.orangehome.co.uk I still can't pick up email.
What I did was run a trace route to my mail server, and I fond that it gets no further than my livebox.
Tried speaking to support, but as per usual they were rubbish and didn't hhave a clue what I was talking about and blamed it on anything they could, outlook, my own mailserver, the direction of the wind...
If anyone has any fixs please let me now as I would dearly love to send emails
Try typing in smtp.193.252.22.138 in place of smtp.orangehome.co.uk. It takes you directly to one of the Orange email servers and appears to by pass the bit that is causing problems.
I have been using this for over a year now and it appears to work perfectly
