I have been using the Orange unique phone for the last 5 months and it has been very good (I have no mobile reception at home without it)
However since the livebox has updated itself with the new firmware my phone will no longer connect to the livebox.
Has anyone else got this problem?
I have reset everything including the livebox (factory reset) but it still wont work. The livebox will connect to my laptop ok. The phone (Nokia 6086) can see the livebox and attempts to connect but just says network connection failed!!!!
I have called Orange and made them aware of the problem but most of the people there dont even know what the unique service is !!!
I have just received a Unique phone [Nokia 6301] from Orange but no instructions as to how to get it to work - So far Orange Technical assistance have been totally unable to assist- Any chance you could point me in the right direction?

Yes the livebox acts like your own Orange tower as the phone switches to using a wifi signal when at home and connects using the internet.
I did not get my phone from Orange I just bought one from Ebay that someone was selling. It cost me about £60 for the Nokia 6086. I think you have to be on a £30 + contract in order to use it but I am not sure. You can also use the newer 6301 Nokia I think.

Too right - but finally found one person able to help (out of at least 15 others who hadn't a clue)
First need to activate your second line, supposedly by ringing an automated phone line on 0800 975 0585 and entering your landline number. You should then be connected within 48 hours. But you won't be. I tried twice, then umpteen calls to customer services. First thing that worked was an email through the website which resulted in a call and the activation of the line. That shows as a steady light on the phone symbol on top of the LiveBox.
When you've got this far, go to the WiFi menu on your phone, select WiFi radio - Wi-Fi preferred and then Available Networks. Your Livebox should show in there. Now press button 1 on the back of the Livebox to put it in pairing mode - the radio light will flash, and it will stay in pairing mode for 10 minutes. Now press Connect on your phone to connect to the Livebox. It will ask for a password. You need to enter the Security code from under the Livebox, case sensitive and no spaces. (all 0's are zeros - there are no capital letter O's). Once paired, you don't have to do this again.
And good luck to you.
(My next battle will be demanding a refund for all the service calls I had to make because there are no staff with any knowledge of the Unique service.)

Hi,
I've had the Unique phone set up on my Livebox for a couple of months now as I have no mobile reception in my house either.
Problem is, every now and then the phone loses its connection to the livebox, often during a call. Sometimes my laptop loses its internet connection as well, but this doesn't always happen which confuses me - I'm not sure if its the internet connection coming into the Livebox, or if its the wireless signal from the Livebox.
Sometimes the connection comes back on its own after 10 minutes, other times I've spent ages rebooting the Livebox, switching the phone on/off, etc.
I've already had the phone replaced, have been through numerous diagnostics with the well-meaning but not technically skilled helpdesk, to no avail... because its an "intermittent problem" so they have no idea.
But it seems to be happening to a few people so somebody at Orange must have a clue what is going on?!
I've had the 6086 for 16 months now. For most of that time it's worked well, even holding regular calls for over 30 minutes. It does however have a lesser range than the wireless laptop and wireless phone directly connected to the livebox second line (which is the alternative VOIP for making calls). However for two periods (a couple of weeks last summer, and then from mid-December 2008 to mid February 2009), nothing would achieve a connection to the server, although the Livebox connection was reset, Livebox rebooted, wifi connection removed and set up again several times: just about every thing I could think of; until one day it just came back of its own accord. Access speeds have varied over that time from 1.8-5Mbs (generally increasing over time on rural line 3.8km from exchange - my estimate SamKnows says 2.7 direct) against the Orange estimate of 5.5Mbs, but without any notiecable adverse effect upon either VOIP phone.
Just one thing, I do find that about once a month you need to switch the phone off and on again to maintain the connection; if you keep the mobile phone on constantly.
Same thing has happened to me. Had Unique now for 2 years. No real problems. Since Christmas (2009) my phones have gradualy failed to connect to the Unique server. I am not able to make a call with any of them now.
The phones are able to connect to the Livebox but my Nokia now reports "Internet connection failed". My Samsung and my HTC now show a red house. None of them connect to Orange.
"We have now launched a new service called UMA which is fundementally the same as Unique but is aimed at Blackberry users. Its uses the same Orange server. This is being promoted as a way of surfing the net when one does not have a Orange signal. It is a free service so Orange does not have to guarantee a connection. So tough that your unique service does not work any more."
My understanding is that the Unqiue bandwidth has been given to data users. I suppose that I will have to vote with my feet.
