Hi. I've been with Orange since they were wanadoo. As i was at univeristy at the time i was unable to tell my parents not to go with wanadoo for our internet knowing full well it would be rubbish, and so i have been stuck with it for the last 3 years or so. Not only have i had numerous problems connecting anything to the livebox ( ds's, psp's, ps3, wii, 360, you name it the livebox hated it until i beat it into submission), and the usual line either slowing down or just dissapearing, but now my speeds are screwed.
As i am on the unlimited package, one i have have always been on, and can from what i've been told recieve 5.5 out of the 8mb speed i pay for ( when in actual fact the fastest i can get is only 2mb) my speeds have been ok, considering i was used to a much faster line while at university. And with the 'unlimited' package, originally 2 years ago i was told i as actually limited to 40gb a month, of which this December i got a letter telling me i went over my limit, which i was then told is 30gb ( cheers for telling me, with the non existent detailed amount in their crap FUP). Since then i have been capped in the evening and as of the 7th of April, i should have had it lifted. However, for about 3 weeks my speed has been at all times of the day at around 20kb/s.
I haven't installed anything new on my pc, the livebox has not been touched, nothing on my end has been changed. I've phoned up countless times ( i don't know why i bother) to be told it's nothing on their end as the line is fine, in which with speed tests it shows i can recieve 5.5mb as previously stated.
I'm pretty much to annoyed too bother trying to fix this with them, as their service over the years has been shocking, as has the customer support. Before i swap to another isp, is there anything that might solve my problem? I've tried using the TCP program to try and get the best optimum results but i've had no luck what so ever. I'm pretty much just gonna phone up tomorrow to get my MAC code unless this can get sorted out as it's almost been a month and i can't do anything on the internet ( which is even more annoying as i just bought RSV2 for my ps3 and would like to play it online in the near future). Here are some of my specs if it helps;
edit - just got off the phone to Orange after being passed around the whole phone team to try and get my MAC code for an hour. they're giving me a free month to make up for the month that hasn't worked, although what is the point when it still is going to be useless. hopefully either my speed will return now they know i'm looking to change isp or my new isp will be better than this, which can't be hard at all. any other help while this is all going on would be greatful.
Well going logically from what you've said, as it's not your PC or the livebox then it must be the BT line or the BT exchange because the problem is purely down to the connection itself.
If the speed is below the FTR, sync speed at which it's classed as a fault, then Orange can get a line test run to investigate. Your line stats do show there has been some sort of problem as the margin has been targetted to 15db. The system should re-examine the margin after 2 weeks of stability.
well it's been a few days now and after not having the internet on and off for a while, i'm changing to a different provider instead. However while i am still on Orange is there anyway to increase my speed without phoning them up as i won't be able to get onto my new isp for about 20 days or so? I'm still getting painfully slow speeds, tried resetting the livebox and a few other things, but i am still screwed. My new provider says there is nothing wrong with the line and there are no faults, so what would be the problem? As i put before i haven't installed anything new and nothing has changed on any of the computers/ps3/wii in terms of settings to limit the speed. Here's the stats after i reset my livebox;

No, not really. Even if you phone nothing may be done about that due to it being the system responding to an issue rather than an indentified fault.
It doesn't matter what caused the problem, as the system responded to it and it's now a matter of waiting for it think everything's fine again and alter the connection back.

To be honest it's best just to leave it alone at this stage. Resetting the box more just ends up being another reason for the system to believe the connection is unstable and leave it as it is.
On a side note, if you move to another ADSL Max connection and they don't cause a new 10 day training period to start you could end up in the same situation waiting for the system to think the connection is stable again. Ideally it'll go into training again or self corrected by that time though.
Including myself there have been many many posts on here after people leave Orange and move to a real ISP to report a massive increase in speed and stability.
So many times people are given Orange's excuses when they ring yet miraculously when they move to a new ISP they get a fast connection and stable too.
well i've moved to Sky as i have been with them for tv for well over 10 years and the there aren't many other providers in my area i can turn to. i found that my exchange is only 1.3km away from my house, don't know if that helps in any way in trying to figure out any more with my speed problems. i've found though that normal downloads have gone up a bit to 40kbs, although rapidshare will only download at a max of 29kbs. should have been switched onto Sky yesterday, have had the router for over a week now and would would like to actually be able to use the internet properly, as trying to play most games is still a nightmare ( metal gear online beta is only on for a little while longer). again thanks for the help and i'll post again when Sky sets up my connection.
EDIT - well after being told i was meant to be contacted when my Sky connection would go live, i phoned up today to find it had alraedy been swicthed on yesterday. i've just done some speed test to see if there are any changes and it came up with this
they said it would take a few days for the line to be ok, so i guess i'll just have to keep checking.
After leaving Orange I moved to Idnet who were 100% faultless in the year or so I was with them.
I only moved as I get o2 (now Sky) broadband cheaper and a faster connection too.
o2 (now Sky) broadband are equally as fantastic, 3 months now.
Both of these companies don't penalise you or lock you into a nightmare either.
With Idnet the contract is month to month and only 30 days notice to leave.
o2 (now Sky) you can leave free in the first 3 months if you're not happy or £50 after that in the first 12 months.
Noth of these companies have English speaking, free customer support with no premium number and no bull - they genuinely care about their customers.
I notice though, that the cheapest package is 15 quid with only 1 gb D/L limit, and even the 18quid package has only 5GB allowed. Bit mean.
