Since November when LLU was activated I've only been getting 608kbps instead of the 1Meg I used to get. After years with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange I was tempted to change to Zen. Phoned Orange for a MAC code and as expected got offered a cheap deal by retentions (6months free, 6months @ 9.99). They promised categorically that my speed would increase within 10 days (my line can support 2.5M max). Against my better judgement I accepted.
Questions:
1) Was I stupid?
2) They are sending me a livebox - should I use it or, stick with the speedtouch modem?
You can use whatever modem/router you like. There's no requirement to use the livebox unless you want the second line, which you have to use the livebox for.
UPDATE: 3 weeks later - at last it seems something has changed - my connection speed has now increased to 896kbps instead of 608. Actual speed test shows download 774, upload 504 (upload used to be about 230), and ping of 89ms.
Does this mean I am no longer on LLU?
Is my speed likely to increase as the connection settles down?

Best way to tell for sure is to look at your upstream synch rate. If its 288 you're LLU
...Probably on LLU, 288 upstream is not a guarantee of being on an LLU connection unless the downstream is over 2 meg.
Anyway seems there's some update to LLU where upstream speeds are being increased. Also thats a non-standard upstream so more likely to be LLU. IPStream use 288, 448 and 844 (not certain on the last one) for the upstream depending on what product it is. Orange only use the 288, generally only for accounts still on an older connection) and 448 ones.
Further update - for the past 10 days I've typically been getting 1.5Mbps (connection varies between 1.3 & 1.9), still with upload of 504. If this continues then I'll be quite happy, given that its only going to cost £60 for the next 12 months...
