My contract is up on July the 13th and I'll be off elsewhere but first I'd like some advice please!
1: How much notice do I need to give Orange before moving i.e. my contract ends on 13-07-08 so if say its a months notice should I be contacting them on 13-06-08?
2: A relative was offered a years free broadband and then broadband at £5 a month thereafter by Orange retentions team; is it worth staying if they offer me a similar deal? My relative told them no way - but better the devil you know and all that!
3: I like to engage in the odd bit of online gaming via my PS3 and a few people have recommended AOL and PlusNet as very reliable for online gaming, has anyone else any experiences with either supplier?
I've been with Orange up to 8meg since 13-07-07 on a 12 month contract and my speeds have been generally rubbish and Orange also managed to F up by billing so after complaining on two separate occasions I was given 3 months free broadband and then later another 6 months free which means in total I'll have had 12 months broadband for £59.97 which isn’t so bad even if it is total crap at peak times!
I thought I'd gather as much info as I can before switching.
1) As far as i'm aware... If your contract ends on the 13th.. You don't need to give any notice.. You can just discontinue the bb..
2) It depends on the statistics of what they were offering.. It's all well and good them saying you get free broadband.. But you have to look at your Download Limits & your speeds...
3) I did used to be on AOL a few years back... Didn't think too much of it.. but they might've improved these days.. Most suppliers will be good for gaming if you just look for a good download speed & package. e.t.c
I'm sure other people will give better feedback than i have soon..
You will need to contact them for a MAC code. Even if you are out of contract you have to give them 30 days notice of termination, which only starts when your new ISP takes over.
So in effect you will have to pay them for a month after you leave. A con, but its in the Terms & Conditions so its a legal con.
Also when you phone for a MAC they will try very hard to keep you by offering 6 months free etc. Decide before you ring them whether you really want to leave, and if so stick with your decision - they can be very persuasive.
If you want to cancel prior to the actual end of the contract then doing so should get you out of the 30 days notice period, you just pay the remaining contract off, so it may be worth it to get your MAC and initiate the process now if you're sure about changing.
