am virtually at screaming pitch! Email frequently does not send; usual error message ie 'server disconnected, error number etc etc'. Have spoken to 'helpline' at vast expense Three times in one day. This suddenly started happening about 3-4 weeks ago, longstanding Orange users since dialup days on freeserve, more by default than specific choice. Helpline repeatedly went through usual checks at length, and our expense, all OK, finally inform me that i will have to reinstall Outlook Express - not to my knowledge possible on XP. When i pointed this out to them, told me to contact my computer provider. I did, they scornfully assured me this is rubbish and the problem is Orange servers. This is all very well, but am not a computer genius, we run tiny business, luckily really don't need to use email for it very much, (although it is becoming more difficult to deal with large organisations without it). There is only me to sort all this out and am terrified of messing systems up completely. Is this problem ever going to be fixed by Orange as from reading this site - which I am very glad I found - I realise that we are not the only customers with this problem and that Orange have apparently reluctantly admitted to one person at least that the problem is their servers. Am now seriously contemplating moving broadband service to another provider, except that am not certain service will be any better. I really do not have time or knowledge to endlessly fiddle about with intermittent disconnections etc.
I had exactly the same problems as experienced by stevieC including the unhelpful expensive calls to the help desk but the solution set out by Borednow has solved the issue completely. Thank you for that.
sorry not to have replied earlier, very rude, but have been rushed off my feet. Many thanks for advice from 'Borednow', have just implemented this and sent a test email to a friend. Lo and Behold!! I had similar problems until about 4 weeks ago when after much trial and error I set up the mail server addresses of both my accounts to the following - Incoming - pop.orangehome.co.uk, Outgoing - smtp.orange.co.uk. (My account email account servers are fsworld.co.uk and wanadoo.co.uk) but this seems to have worked and had no problems since. (touch wood)
Tech Support both by e-mail and phone could not help and just repeatedly blamed outlook although in the end they admitted that they had problems and then retracted that!
