Sorry if in the wrong place but here goes.
I got my old PC out the garage and decided to connect it all up for the kids to play about on. It doesn't have a wireless card but is running xp home edition.
Basically I borrowed the above usb wireless adaptor and installed it on my pc.
It sees the Livebox wireless network but won't allow me to connect.
There are so many settings that I'm blown away .
Has anybody used this adaptor and if so help !

Cheers in advance lads.
When you say won't let you connect.. How do you mean.
If you can see the router.. It should be fine.. If you try to connect.. Are you asked for any passwords or anything like that? If you use the software with the D-Link [ if there is any ] then it should ask you for a WPA key or a WEP key.. Depending on how your router is set up..
More info on " won't connect " would probably help us answer your question.
Basically it tells me I'm connected to the live box. In the software both xp and the DLink stuff I have entered the relevant WEP key. The Dlink icon is green indicating I have a connection but when I open IE on the PC it keeps telling me I'm not connected and tries to open my old dial up account. The only way I have managed this connection is through trail and error. Basically set it to be adhoc and on channel 1 whatever that means ! Could be something I'm missing in setting up IE ? Trying to put xp professional on tomorrow as it was a piece of p*** setting up my laptop that runs this.

Thanks for the help any more would be welcome.

Alright mate..
Sounds to me like your default connections are the issue.. You're using XP yes? I'm doing this from memory as i'm not on the Desktop.. But you want to open IE.. Click Tools.. Then Internet Options.. Go to... Connection??
In the little rectangular box is your old dial up account?? Click it.. And press delete.. So that it is empty.. Then go down and make sure " Never Dial A Connection " is checked..
Click Apply.. Refresh the page.. And see what happens.. If you still get the page cannot be displayed.. Try Google.. If you still get the error page.. If it says you're connected.. Go back into Tools & Internet Options.. Go back to connections and down to LAN Settings?.. Everything should be off.. i.e. nothing ticked..
Also.. You say it's set as an adhoc.. An adhoc is used to send the internet through a computer to another computer, so this COULD be the cause... And Channel 1 is a term used to describe Wireless Frequencies.. If you have "excellent" signal from your router.. Then that Channel is fine to be using.. As if a neighbour is using the same channel... Or channel close to yours.. Then you could have connection issues.. But as it says you're connected.. It won't be that.
Try all that and see how you get on, if that doesn't solve it.. I'll try and assist some more.
Thanks mate will try and get xp pro installed later today. Can't see half the options I remember using on my laptop . For some reason when I change it from ad hoc it loses the signal. Saying that though in network connections it says I only have a LAN as opposed to a wireless internet connection. Very starnge sounds like Ive connected to a LAN or accidently created one ? Will try all you say and post back for more help !
