I thought posting the following may be interesting as well as a good way to keep a record my experience:

As of Feb 24th my BT Tester result was:

Quote:

24/02/08 02:38
IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4800 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3665 kbps
2. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2815 kbps

Then on Feb 29th:

Quote:

29/02/08 00:18
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 3000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 3872 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2756 kbps
2. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1972 kbps

Tgis was more consistent with what I'd been achieving for months, so the previous profile seemed like a happy (short-term) "glitch".

Then this Sunday, Mar 30th:

DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1760 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1312 kbps

Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1162 kbps

Suddenly, a significant drop in my IP profile. The phone line went dead at 6pm that night!

And now today (Tuesday), just after the engineer has left, having sorted the wiring at the local box, which he reckoned (as I did) had been ready to go for a while, hence the IP profile changing:

Can I reasonably expect the IP profile to increase back to 3000 (or above, fingers crossed) over the next 2-3 days?

To answer my own question, it appears the answer is yes as my IP Profile has returned to its previous value:

Providing the sync speed stays above 3424 then your profile should remain at 3 meg.

Can you just clarify which is the sync speed? Is that the Down-stream DSL Connection rate in the BT checker stats?

Sorry, yeah it's the downstream rate, commonly referred to as the sync speed in many places.
