Hi everybody I have some good news and some bad news
I like everybody else have been ofline since 21 June and have been given all the wrong information
from Orange support which consists of line faults and modem problems
The problem is as follows
Orange decided in there wisdom to upgrade the broadband signal to 8mb there is a problem in that is we recive our signal via copper cables
any one who like myself has worked in the network distrabution industry will
tell you the further you send a signal down a wire the weaker it gets
but also the higher the frequency the quicker it degrades
now let us all cast our minds back to before this madness happend
the distance you lived from the exchange you recived your broadband from determend the speed you could go to
in my case a line check in December when my excange was LLU worked out at 2mb and it worked perfectley
untill 21 June then Orange try to send 8mb along the same network that will only accept 2mb
the new equipment will not turn down lower than 3mb so the signal cannot sicronise resulting in loss of connections
Perversley the time you can connect is when the server is over loaded then because the signal is in my case below 2mb bingo i get a connection but
only breifly
Now thats the good news
The bad news is copper cable can carry higher signals and frequencys but
it has to be frozen to zero to then become a super conducter
now maybe Orange is praying for a bad Winter or that we all move closer to the exchanges somehow its not going to be easy solving this one
As always, it is best to move to an ISP not run by monkeys.....you'd have more luck with tin cans & string than with orangedoo....forget the physics of metallurgic properties, these clowns can hardly count on their fingers when it comes to getting your problems fixed.
The Orange LLU is very similar to the BT ADSL Max system being that it's rate adaptive. When the modem tries to connect it will syncronise at the fastest speed it is able to be that 8meg (You will never get a full 8 meg speed as far as I'm aware) or 1/2 meg.
Being that you were on 2 meg previously usually that means a good signal and often equates to between 5-8meg on a rate adaptive system.
