I'm having trouble sending to the above freeserve machine(s). The name resolves to many different IP addresses (eg 193.252.22.141-143). I was notified that some of the emails that I was forwarding to mailboxes served by that dns name were either not getting through or were very delayed.
I see that over the last 5 weeks or so, ~2600 emails have been successfully delivered, but ~4,000 attempted deliveries failed because the smtp server on one of the IP addresses got timed out by my smtp server. That looks like a pretty poor service availability to me.
Is this normal? It seems to delay some email by many hours (or possibly days).
I have been increasingly unable to send to my customers that have wanadoo, freeserve, fsmail, fsbusiness, orange, orangehome addresses. I am not an Orange user, thankfully, but nearly every email is rejected as not being able to find an mx host for user.domain. Telnet to the smtp servers is unreliable. Surely Orange has an answer somewhere, but I am not about to call a premium line in India for hours to report their problem. (That's even if I could understand a word they were saying!)
Meantime, I am sorry for their customers!
Thanks for the reply, but as I said, I am not an Orange user and cannot specify an ip address in my mail server that only works for certain email addresses. I am outside their network but need to send emails to my customers.
As I understand it, Orange should have mx records for each and every domain and if they include the username in the domain, then surely would need mx records for each user? Which is why the rejections are for not being able to find them.
I would appreciate an answer from Orange themselves.
My point was that only a few of the many email servers that Orange are using actually work reliably. Perhaps you can get this message across to your most important customers at least, so they can change their POP3 IP addresses.
Sorry but I think you are mistaking me for an ISP. I am just a simple businessman trying to get emails to my clients for overseas property! I am of course advising these clients to change their isp,

I think that has been a problem ever since Orange took over from Wannadoo -When I was with Orange I resorted to buying a domain and getting all my mail sent to that address. Thankfully I'm not with them any more - Quite frankly I'm surprised anyone still is!
