I have just migrated from Orange to o2 (now Sky) but my next direct debit to Orange is due around the 5th of next month. When I got my MAC code Orange informed me that there's no need to cancel my contract with them as this will be done automatically once the migration had taken place. So does this mean Orange will also cancel the direct debit or should I cancel it myself?
I do not owe them any money as I am out of the minimum contract period but don't want to pay for another months broadband if I don't need to and then have the hassle of trying to get it refunded

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Quite a few on here have found it best to phone Orange onceyou've migrated to o2 (now Sky) and notify them of the migration date. From this date you need to pay Orange for 1 month (that is the notice period requirement). Once this has been paid cancel the DD yourself.
N.B. if it's a credit card DD then Orange can re-instate it but bank a/c DD they can't.

No. You DO NOT need to pay Orange a full month as there is no notice period once your contract is up. The only notice period is the 30 days they need to give you if they're about to end your contract for their own reasons. When I moved from Orange I cancelled the direct debit the same day. Remember that you pay in advance for your service and unless you cancel your dd before your migration date and a payment is due before your migration date, you won't owe them a penny. Most times Orange will end your dd for you as soon as they have migrated you, but it doesn't husrt to do it yourself - just to be on the safe side ;o)
