A couple of days I tried everything to get my PC Wake on Lan (WOL) from the internet...but without any success!
My PC is connected to the "Red" Ethernet of the Livebox (Inventel) with static IP address, firewall low, port forwarding to port 7 etc.
Looks like the Livebox can't save the NIC's MAC address, which is needed
for the "Magic Packets" to be send to? It saves the wireless MAC address, but not the NIC one...
I tested WOL on my PC static connected wired to my Laptop and WOL works fine...
Does anybody know a workaround this problem? Thank you!
It's doesn't need the MAC for it it to work, all the Livebox does it follow the port forward rules and send data to whatever IP is listed. Are you sure your PC's WOL feature is working correctly?
I'm sure the WOL "Magic Packet" needs the MAC address of the PC's Ethernet Card (NIC)...I tested it with my laptop connected by an Ethernet cable and have sent the "Magic Packet" with a program called mc-wol.exe
to my PC and I could wake up the PC from Standby without any problem...
So what?
Well AFAIK the MAC's are only used for MAC filtering of wireless, the actual data is passed purely over an IP connection. From what I read it's switches that use MAC's not routers.
Have you tried a direct connection from the laptop to the PC to test the WOL is working?
Sorry, but I#ve mentioned two times in my previous post that I did a direct connection between the PC and a Laptop and it worked fine...
Please be kind and read my full post...
Sorry missed the first mention and the second I assumed to be you tested the laptop through the internet connection. In that case I have no idea what's causing it.
Thanks, but I tried exactly that program from your link and with this program I could get the WOL (Wake On Lan) working with a direct connection between my Laptop and PC...
After further investigation into this WOL on the internet, I got it working for around 5 minutes now: What I did, was to sign into DynDNS and get an alternative of the Orange IP address and have set this into the Livebox
configuration...
Now, I can send a "Magic Packet" over the Internet to my PC at home and
it will Wake Up from S3 Standby...but for around 5 Minutes only after the
PC went into Standby...and then after, I can't Wake Up the PC anymore. Looks like the Livebox lost something...perhaps the MAC address?

Again i could be talking complete rollocks here... Do your firewalls allow each computer? May be a bit of a silly question... But it's only thing i can really think of..
Yes, the Firewalls for the "Magic Packets" Port are open...Port Forwarding for the UDP Port in the Livebox is done, the Livebox's Firewall is set to low...
For me it looks like something to do with the Router/Livebox ARP Table,
but I don't really know...may be someone has successfully got the Wake on Lan (WOL) over the Internet working with this Orange Livebox and can
teach/tell me how to do?

You tried turning the Livebox Firewall Off... If you have firewalls on both computers.. This won't make a difference Security-wise... I've never tried WOL myself... But i'm sure if someone has then they'll message.. =]

The livebox firewall on low is off, it's lablelled so on the pages themselves although the name of the setting is misleading when you can't see the page.
I tried both firewalls turning off...but no difference! It needs a deaper setting change I'm almost sure...I read something like telnet the ARP table and/or changing the broadcast subnet of the router...but I don't know how and what the settings should look like to get this WOL working over the internet?
