Until recently my livebox has been working fine. Suddenly, on a daily basis, I cannot connect to the internet. The @ light and pairing light are both showing as solid. But neither my wired pc nor my wireless laptop can connect. Orange took me through several pointless troubleshooting steps before finally performing a factory reset. This cured the problem, or so I thought. But, almost on a daily basis, I now need to carry out a factory reset. Any ideas why? Orange said that it is a browser problem and I should contact my vendor. I don't know Bill Gates phone number though. I doubt that this is the cause as I have different software on my pc and laptop. What is the most likely cause - a faulty box? Anyone else experienced similar problems? Forgot to mention, when this happens I cannot connect to the livebox using 192.168.1.1 to access the configuration pages. Only a reset lets me do that. At first, I thought it was a pairing problem as I was using my wireless laptop first time it happened. I tried putting it in pairing mode, but nothing happened when I pressed button 1. I tried pressing button 2 as well, but nothing happened then either. It was then that I noticed that my wired pc was not able to access the internet either. As the livebox does not respond when I press either of the 2 buttons, it is as if the livebox is freezing, like a pc does sometimes. Any ideas of the cause, or is it just a faulty unit.
Elhana, I have tried that, and it works as well as a factory reset. Why does it keep locking up in the first place though. The power is surge protected so that cannot be the reason. When it locks I cannot get any response from it via my pc, my laptop, or by pressing any of the buttons. Switching it off and on again is the only thing that works. I should not need to do that every day though, so something must be wrong somewhere.
Well if when it's working you can press 1 so the antenna light flashes (it stops flashing after the first 10 minutes by default so then would be the best time to check) and when it stops responding it doesn't flash that light then I'd say yes it's faulty. Call Orange and tell them about it and they should replace it.
I've only had my livebox for Three days and it's doing it all the time, I don't know how long I'll be online before I get cut off. This is taking up my time and money (0870's) I hate this ISP and I've only been with them for Three days!!!!
P.S the last thing IT helpdesk said was it was a issue with my anti-virus and firewall and I need to take them off before I go online
As I said if the antenna light is solid and won't start flashing when you press 1 when it stops working it's a fault with the box, thats the clear way to tell.
I too have been having the same problem since last September 2007, found it work out cheaper to go out and purchase a "netgear DG834PN" rather than to pay the cost of calls to the "unhelpful Helpdesk" provided all the way from India.
I have been getting the same problem for the last month or so. The connection will be fine for hours or even a whole day, and then suddenly the arrow light will stop flashing and I cannot access the internet. I cannot access the Livebox configuration page either. The phone light, @ light and antenna lights are solid. If I press button 1 the antenna light will start flashing but I still can't connect.
The only way round it I've found is to unplug the livebox and plug it back in, and then it will reconnect.
I have a "spare" Livebox in my loft because when I had a problem following a firmware upgrade a couple of years ago, they sent me two new ones by mistake, but the second line doesn't work with the new Livebox, and Tech Support didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I called them, and told me to change the Livebox channel to 11, whereas all I wanted for them to activate the phone line on the new box . Gave up in the end and went back to the old box, but I'm still getting this periodic freezing problem.
Hi Guys, glad its not just me then. Yeh my Livebox needs resetting at least once a day also. Seems to have started when i bought a new hardwired PC with Vista and a new Bullguard Virus checker.
Anybody found a solution yet? I also have a Netgear attached to the Livebox to give me more hardwires, I only have the Livebox so I can use the freefone attached to it.
Been having this problem all day and on several previous occasions, think the most amount of time its been connected was about 45 minutes or so before I had to do the unplug/plugin jobby...although I've seen it happen as soon as 14 minutes ish. Most of the time my connections okay, but every so often this starts up.
What I always notice is ya know yer little icon in the system tray, the two tele screens that flash and show yer connective status, show yer speed and how long youve been connected etc, well the time counter on that thing will always freeze around 10 minutes or so before the livebox bombs, often when theres little or no packets being sent/received under the internet gateway icon there.
Most annoying thing is when I've left it downloading overnight, only to wake up in the morning and find out the livebox died 15 minutes after I fell asleep. Anyway I just did a load of factory resets and at the moment its behaving, counter in the status window is still going even though theres not much traffic but only time will tell I spose.
On another note, I dunno if its a coincidence but the Orange login site has been pretty much innaccessible today.
I have been having the same problems today (and did about 3 weeks ago, just after the recent firmware update, but then it fixed itself after 24 hours). If I right click on the "TV" icons and select repair it seems to work sometimes, othertimes I have to do a complete reboot (PC and livebox).
I have it set-up so that I have my 3com router with DHCP disabled so that I can use the wireless LAN from 3com (with the livebox wireless disabled) This makes it much easier to configure wireless devices! I am not sure if this setup may be causing problems??
Another odd thing is that today my 2nd line ONLY works when my PC is not working!!!! When I do manage to connect the PC correctly and check the status of the 2nd line, it says "Not Available" "No Number Assigned". It was all working fine yesterday, so I think it may be a fault at the Orange end of things? Very odd that the VOIP works when the internet doesn't though!
Typical, I just tried to post this, and by the time I clicked submit, my connection had failed. I re-cycled power on the livebox and repaired the connection and it worked again. Just to test the VOIP, I listened to the dial tone on the 2nd line as the livebox was connecting to the internet. At the exact time the ADSL connected, I heard the relay click inside the box and I got network activity on my PC, the dial tone on the 2nd line went dead!
Is anyone else experiencing these sorts of problems?
Ok dunno if this has any relevance to anything but I've noticed an odd pattern: at least half a dozen times when my livebox has bombed, the timer on my internet connection has frozen at 14 minutes and 31 seconds.
Make of it what you will....
Also a friend of mine tonight told me his has been doing the same thing off and on lately too, livebox freezing and having to unplug it, same lights on the box staying on but no response from the internet or livebox configuration page etc.
Ok, posted in another thread about this but i'm having the same problems. Thing's i've noticed when the connection fails are; that the computer stops seeing any sort of connection to the livebox. This pretty much sums up that firewalls and antivirus programs arn't blocking the signals because in past expreience ive gone into run->cmd and used ipconfig/all and the default gateway (address of router) still shows up.
Doing that with this disconnection reveals the dafault gateway is blank and the PC doesn't see any router.
Looking at network connections I can see my LAN connection is still connected and functioning so there's no flaws on that bit. Weird thing is if you unplug the livebox, the LAN connection will alert you and say a network cable is unplugged. Because the livebox isn't functioning, shouldn't this happen?
I'm thinking it might be something to do with the new firmware upgrade because that's the last thing I remember doing to my router before the problem started.
I might try changing back to an older firmware version to see if it solvs it but I need to ask if it will be safe to do so for a day or so because there might be a security risk involved???
Just bombed at 14:31 again after being connected through the night....funny how it only does it when the computers on, anyway gonna ring em tomorrow since being a bank holiday you know today I'd just end up screaming at some indian, might have a chance at someone I can understand tomorrow...
