I always thought i was quite experienced with issues... But this ones beginning to annoy me a bit... Friday 15th, my laptop decided to run an update, which somehow... [ i think ] ****ed up my Boot Manager. And the only thing that worked in getting my laptop back to life again was re-partitioning the hard drive to just a C: [instead of C: & D:].. And re installing Vista a million times..
Anywho... On top of that, i get BSOD [ Blue Screen Of Death ] when i do certain things now... Like try and install AVG,[having to use bloody avast[no offence to avast users ]]... Or connect to my laptop via desktop.. [ Connecting to Desktop from Laptop = No problems.. ]
Since the Laptop fiasco... My connection suddenly drops to JUST a local connection every 30 minutes or so.. Only for about 20 seconds, but it ain't normal... After that i'm back on Local & Internet.. I'm fairly confident this is not the Livebox as all lights are solid during the Local phase & i have the Desktop connected wirelessly using a Belkin USB thingy.. And have no such problems there..
No updates available anywhere.. i.e Windows Update or Driver Updates..
No idea what's causing it..
No idea how to stop it from doing it..
And i've also noticed a reduction in website loading speed since my laptop died on me...
I had this problem with Vista - would only connect to local. Router was a Billion BIPAC 5200G. Answer was upgrade the firmware.
I tried it with Livebox and connected straight away to local and internet.
Make sure Livebox is updated to Firmware identification: v5.10.7-uk.
Keith
Livebox is up to date.. No settings have been changed.. It's just since my laptop died... I don't trust my laptop anymore anyway.. So may just buy a new one..
Update: Local problem seems to have been stopped.. No idea how/why...
Only problem now is pages take a lot longer than normal to load..

Blurry 'ell...
Update: I have just noticed that my Details on Network & Sharing Status has IPv6 on Limited. Before all this. It was Connected.. Anyone know how to get IPv6 connected again.. I'm pretty sure that is what the problem is... =[
IPv6 isn't the problem, neither the livebox or Orange use or support it yet. I read there was some trial service of it in france but thats as much as I know.
Anyway it was only a couple of weeks ago the core domain servers were upgraded to support IPv6, least I think it was them.

Firstly are the speedtests showing roughly the correct speed compared to normal?
Do ping tests show any difference in time between the laptop and desktop? Run it a few times on each to get it averaged out.
I pinged a few sites from each computer. Here are the results shown.
First Ping. www.speedtest.net
Laptop: Ping statistics for 69.17.117.207:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 186ms, Maximum = 200ms, Average = 191ms
Desktop: www.speedtest.net
Ping statistics for 69.17.117.207:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 177ms, Maximum = 184ms, Average = 179ms
Second Ping: www.google.com
Laptop: Ping statistics for 64.233.183.147:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 52ms, Maximum = 62ms, Average = 57ms
Desktop: Ping statistics for 64.233.183.147:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 47ms, Maximum = 54ms, Average = 49ms
Third Ping: www.bbc.co.uk
Laptop: Ping statistics for 212.58.251.208:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 39ms, Maximum = 52ms, Average = 42ms
Desktop: Ping statistics for 212.58.251.208:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 37ms, Maximum = 47ms, Average = 42ms
As both are wireless.. I also plugged my laptop straight into Livebox.
Wired Ping: www.bbc.co.uk
Laptop: Ping statistics for 212.58.251.208:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 44ms, Maximum = 50ms, Average = 47ms
Hope you can make an assumption from the stats...
EDIT: I actually ran a few tests on speedtest.net from Desktop.
Download: 2906Kbps
Upload: 348Kbps
Only 150 miles from Maidenhead server.. Ping was 57ms..

Have you found any resolution. I have Vista and the livebox and am experiencing the same thing. Every half an hour i get local connection only for a while. Then after a few hours i get no connection at all and a DNS error. I'm sure it is linked to the windows updates??

What i've done is turned off IPv6 in the Properties menu.. I'm not sure if this is what sorted it.. But my Laptop stays connected now.. To do this, I opened up the Network and Sharing Center. Went to View Status. Then took the second Properties option.. [ The one that isn't wireless properties ]
In that list is an IPv6 box which is ticked.. Unticking this is all i did.. =]
