I guess a lot of you received the email yesterday about the forthcoming firmware update. Well, f.y.i. if you can't wait it is now available if you do a manual update request via the Livebox config page
I updated this evening - the update seemed to come in two parts. The config page showed the download, then a windows message came up to say 'don't turn off the livebox, it's updating' or similar. Then my PC lost its WiFi connection and the box lights started some synchronised flashing (presumably whilst the firware was being flashed).
The box appeared to come online again, but my PC couldn't connect. However, it was evidently downloading some more, and shortly started synchronised flashing again.
After this was finished it came online again (existing WiFi settings were retained).
Now for the NEW FEATURES
The first obvious feature on the 'My Services' page is the Digital TV service. There is a setting so you can Enable or Disable the auto-config of the Yellow Ethernet port for use with a Digital TV box in the future (presumably it will be just like BT Vision).
Next change is on the Phone over ADSL config page. You can force the phone into Higher or Lower audio quality (as well as an Auto setting). There is a warning that users on low bandwidth connections may not be able to force the higher quality, so suggests you remain on Auto. I have tried the Higher quality on my 6Meg connection, and there is a noticeable improvement (now like a good quality landline).
In the Advanced Wireless settings there is a new option for WiFi easypairing. Still no WPA2 security though.
The only other difference I think I have found is that the status pages report on the status of each interface (Red Ethernet, Yellow Ethernet & USB). Not sure if it did before.
So, looks positive. Now we must wait to learn more about the Digital TV.
The interfaces are listed on the previous version, just I think they weren't labelled quite as clearly, so the change makes them more noticable.
The bits you missed.
Bluetooth has been completely disabled and removed from it's config.
Turn the livebox off and on and watch it not go into pairing mode automatically.
If you have questions about the TV I can see if can dig up some info if you like.
I just got the email after spending half the day struggling with a connection that kept dropping and trying switching the thing on and off.
Stupid muppets should have sent this email last week rather than confuse the hell out of some users who thought their livebox was dying (though possibly the update is causing me problems)
I'v just tried clicking submit on the update page in the config and it said my gateway was up to date but i still showing the old firmware version????
Are they not ready to give it to me yet?

I think that this update affected my ability to connect wirelessly.
I use an Ethernet cable to connect my desktop, but also use my work laptop, which is fitted with a wireless card. It's normally been no problem, but today, the first time I'd tried to connect it since the firmware update, it dropped the connection after a few moments. TBH, I thought it was a firewall problem; the FW (Comodo 3) flashed up a "new network detected" message, which was presumably because there was some significant change in the router (?). I'd simply cancelled the message, because one of the jobs I needed to do was to update the firewall, anyway.
I wasn't too bothered when the connection dropped, because I assumed that it was simply because I'd cancelled the alert (although that's not the usual result, IME). However, after I'd reinstalled, the same thing happened again, despite the network settings in Comodo now certainly being correct. Putting the Livebox into pairing mode and logging off / in re-established a connection, but only for as long as it remained in pairing mode. This I repeated several times - same result each time. As soon as the Livebox left pairing mode, the connection was (effectively) lost; the network connection was still shown as being present, but no data could be transferred, and I couldn't ping the Livebox.
I then tried disabling "easy pairing mode" (which I don't think was there as an option with the old firmware) and this seems to have sorted the problem. I therefore leave this tale in case it helps anyone else!
I go into the configuration part of the settings, select update, but i'm told the gateway is already up to date. The page just keeps refreshing and nothing happens...

How do i go about updating my Livebox manually?

You can't force it until Orange are ready and willing, I don't think. Funnily enough, mine updated minutes after I tried manually and got the "up to date" message.

...actually, no - it seems not to have solved the problem! Any ideas, anyone?!

I was thinking that, but i was just basing it on what couple of people have said above, like Keithwjones said, his did the same, but he carried on anyway...
This update has screwed my p2p especially the upnp part, now no ports are open anymore and none will open.
After a complete reset of the box all appears well again though. !!

Just tried to connect with a wireless Dell Axim - after update - mine is ok.
Thanks for that. Mine had been okay for an hour or so until a few minutes back, when it's just stopped working again. the connection shows as excellent, and there's no apparent problem - until I try to actually do anything! No ping, even.
