I get over 1000 spams a day, because spammers use anyname@myaddress.freeserve.co.uk. I don't want to change my isp but if I could limit my address to the names of myself and my family I would get much less spam.
With my inbox limited to 1000 emails I start losing possibly important messages when the inbox is full.
Freeserve/Wanadoo are completely uninterested in offering any useful advice.
I use Qurb which is a white list filter and works pretty well, however I still need to log on to my Freeserve/Wanadoo account to empty the inbox every day to make sure that it is not full. If I am out of the office I log on from my laptop and it takes ages for Wanadoo to let you on.
Nearly all of the spams include the text-
Hi,
AMBjIEN
VALjIUM
VjIAGRA
CIjALIS
But their filters do not work for this content.
I can try and filter by subject line, which works for a while, then the spammers change the subject line and I need to set up yet another new filter.
If there was a way of bouncing back any e-mails that are not specifically addressed to me or other authorized users at my Wanadoo Webmail inbox the problem would be virtualy solved, or if the Wanadoo filters worked for the above content.
Wanadoo only ever tell me to look at the help content on filters on their site, I think that I have exploited this as far as it can go.
Interestingly I also have an Easyspace account, they have this facility to give e-mails a spam rating which you can set to different levels, I regularly check my junk and deleted mail folder and have never had any genuine mail marked as spam, also it is much faster to log on, why can't Wanadoo do this?
I am rather hoping someone from Wanadoo/Orange might read this since communicating with people who care or understand seems impossible. I cannot be the only person with this problem. If Orange cannot help this will reflect poorly on their brand.
After all, the idea of sourcing my families/business mobile phones, landlines and broadband would be good if I had confidence in the suppliers support.
As far as I know all emails sent to your account will be recieved and there's no way to prevent an email coming in or bounce it back from the webmail options.
I've just started receiving spam on my email account and wondered if any Wanadoo-now-Orange customers have found the same thing? It involves my Outlook Express account, and is curious because I only ever give that address to friends and family (all my commercial and newsgroup stuff goes through separate webmail accounts).
This happened to me once before when I was a member of LineOne, an excellent ISP which was taken over by Tiscali. I ended up with hundreds of spam messages a day, which prompted my move to Wanadoo. I never had any problems with this with Wanadoo, so it seems curious that it should suddenly start now.
I don't think it's the security flaw in this instance, as I went into Wanadoo as a broadband customer. I can't find any information on privacy and data protection on the Orange site - if it's there it's very well hidden! It would probably be too late anyway if my address has already made it onto spammers lists.
It's possible the security flaw could have contributed, another common way your address gets onto spam lists is through spyware infecting other people's systems and then gathering all the available addresses.

Same here inundated about 1000 spam emails a day also and i use mailwasher was a complete nuisance, CS wasn't interested said its attached to my username and if i wanted a new email addy i need to cancel my account and rejoin with a new 12 month contract ( as if lol 4 years was enough for me )but the spam was just minor problems with this company and they wasn't in the slightest bit interested in solving any of them so now ive signed up with another ISP should be finalised by next week .
I'm not alone then! As far as I can see any freeserve/wanadoo/orange e-mail account is an easy target for spammers because you can't limit the names before the @ symbol. It doesn't matter how clever the name after @ is. Are the spammers trying to crash the freeserve/wanadoo/orange system?
Surely freeserve/wanadoo/orange ignoring this problem will eventually damage their business?
I tried phoning for help yesterday, all the advice I got (at however many £1's a minute) was to download the help pages on filters that I already know are inadequate. What I want to know is how to set up a filter that only lets through messages with my name before the @, surely this is not too difficult?
I sent an E-mail using their help form two days ago, no reply.
Does any one know how to contact someone at Orange who understands the problem and can provide useful technical advice?
