I am after desperate help, i am using a D-Link DSL-G604T as my modem and a Belkin F5D8233-4 n wireless router. It was ok until the other day when they both weren't co-operating so i did a factory reset on both my modem and router. Now the problem is that i forgot the old settings i was using for the modem so now, even using just the modem i get download speeds of around 10kbps.
You're using PPPoE when it should be PPPoA, "E" works but "A" is the recommended setting. The Orange settings link on the left should give you any others you're unsure about.
System Uptime 1 hour(s) 26 minute(s)
DSL Status Connected
DSL Speed 448 Kbps Upstream, 5216 Kbps Downstream
LAN IP Address 192.168.1.1
Ethernet Connected
DHCP Server Running
Software Version V1.00B02T02.UK.20050815
I have just tried to go the speedtester and it won't work. It just stays at checking user details.

Keep trying speedtester because it looks like you are on Max (448 upstream stat).....speedtester will give your profile.....you aren't entering your email address are you ?.....you need to use your broadband username.

No i am using something like this: example.freeserve.co.uk@fs
I will keep trying the speed tester then.
EDIT: here are the results
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5216 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 76 kbps

OK, you should be seeing something near your connection rate, run the speedtester 2 or 3 times a day and note the profile, it should start changing......upwards !!.......unless there's a problem with your cable(s) on your side of the BT linebox, are you plugged into the main linebox or an extension box ?

You could also note the downstream if it shows a different value to now, as long as you normally leave your router on all the time. This value staying the same all the time should indicate stability. The profile can take upto 3 days for the automated system to increase it.
I don't leave my router on all the time, is that a big problem?
This is from my most recent test:
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5024 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 119 kbps

Yes, that's possibly why you have the low profile, by switching off you're mimicking disconnection so the Max system is trying to achieve a stable rate so lowers your profile.
Also if you are using an extension then you really should read this >>>>
Where my extension is plugged into i don't have a phone, just the extension lead.
Then at my end of the extension i have a 2 way adapter, then a filter for my phone, then another little extension and a filter for my internet connection. Is that ok because it has worked fine before.

You were supposed to click on the NEXT button and go through the wiring instructions. Correct wiring standard is important when you have a long cable run and using an extension.
Remember, you only filter the non-ADSL signal items so only phones/Sky boxes/faxes/answer machines need to be filtered....the unfiltered signal goes to your modem/router.
