Hello all, I don't know what the protocol is here for newbies, but please all help yourselves to virtual drinks, cakes and bacon sarnies
I wonder is anyone can explain / help with any of the following:
1. What is the attainable rate as shown by the white box of doom?
2. Does Orange throttle bandwidth on their laughable unlimited package?
3. Does second line have bandwidth provisioned for it, even when not in use?
4. Does the CEO realise that his/her Technical Support is an oxymoron?
5. Is it possible to hook up a third party router instead of the white box of doom?
6. Is it possible to switch packages from unlimited to say starter and buy your way out of the contract at a cheaper rate?
7. Is it possible to break the contract on the basis that Orange have failed to provide an unlimited service (or a service to the lines capacity) when I have been receiving 2MB or less? (I know the line will support 5MB as this constant under Sky/Easynet)
Sorry to dump a load on you all in the first post, but I am getting rather cheesed off with the 'call structured' technical responses that Bangalore provides...
'We need 5 speed tests before we can do a line test'
'Call back after five days to speak to us after we have completed the line test'
'We have no record of any line tests on your line, I'll order one now, please call back in 5 days
ad infinitum [/list]
1. It is the theoretical maximum speed with the displayed line stats, you will never achieve this speed.
2. AFAIK the only throttling I know of is if you overuse the service and get capped, but you should be informed.
3. There is no reserved bandwidth for the second line, though I believe (not 100% certain) that it's not counted towards usage.
4. ...
5. Yes but you can't use the second line.
6. AFAIK yes but only works if you're at the very start of your package as it begins a new 18 month contract.
7. It can be done but it depends on a range of factors. Sky/Easynet do use ADSL 2+ in cases and if you were on that you won't be able to get that speed on Orange as they don't use that tech. Looking into your line stats will be the only way to really check that.
