Hi, I've just bought a new desktop pc, which works with the livebox wired via an ethernet cable. My pc runs windows xp. I have bought a belkin wireless g usb adapter and installed it. However, I cannot get the internet wireless via the belkin. I can get the livebox visible on the wireless network list (especially if I enable the windows zero configuration) but constantly have a red belkin icon at the bottom of the screen. As soon as I disonnect the ethernet cable, I cannot connect to the internet.
Can anyone help me set this up so I can move my pc to another room wirelessly?
I have checked the device manager and all the devices are working properly.

UNABLE TO CONNECT WITH WIRELESS:
Are you pressing Button 1 on Livebox to put it into pairing mode?
Press Button 1 on Livebox so the wifi light flashes. This puts livebox into pairing mode and you have 10 minutes to try and connect your wireless device . This only needs to be done once and then you should be able to connect every time .
I had to change security on Livebox to WEP only.
WEP key is case sensitive.
If security is an issue WPA is more secure, try WPA only.
You could also try Changing the channel. One recommended to try is channel 9. Try this first if you can not see the Livebox at all.
Another issue is if there are 2 programmes on the computer that you are trying to connect trying to control the wireless. Turn off the programme that came with the wireless card and use XP to control the connection.
Hi Keith, thanks for your reply.
I don't think it's a connection problem to the liverbox per se, as my livebox does appear on the view wireless networks box and the key is there.
I think it's the belkin external wireless usb adapter that isn't connecting me wirelessly. I'm not sure what my xp settings should be. Maybe I need to uninstall it and re-install it? Not really sure.
I can get internet via the ethernet ok.
Thanks

Read my instructions again, I still think the answer is there.
It could be a driver problem with the Belkin. The last one I did I had problems with the drivers in the end I removed it then let it get the drivers from the internet. For this you have to have the ethernet cable in.
Hi Keith, I have tried everything you have suggested.
I have menaged to get the blue belkin icon a couple of times and get connected wireless but when I close down computer, I can't get wireless again.
Am writing this via ethernet connection.
The livebox is configured correctly and my new pc has been paired and is listed as associated devices. It's definitely not anything to do with the livebox (in my opinion).
I wonder if the settings are wrong on my computer?
The belkin software has loaded fine and my livebox always appears on the wireless connections page.
I click connect and ok for the key (which is stored) but it doesn't connect.
Any more ideas?
I'm thinking of paying someone to install a wireless card inside as getting fed up now!
Hope you can help - or anyone else out there!
Thanks
Sue
I bought a USB Belkin adaptor for my future son in law's PC but I ended up taking it back because he had exactly the same problem as you ie we could get it to connect but the following day the connection had gone again.Installed a cheap Edimax PCI card internally which connects but occasionally loses the connection because of lack of signal quality/strength!
Best USB ADAPTOR I have used is a Linksys one which works perfectly on one of my own PCs.

Hi Keith
I've tried everything you have suggested.
I think I have the settings set up wrong somewhere along the lines.
I removed adapter etc, re-installed it after downloading driver from internet. Seem to have 2 blekins on the services.msc list now so tried stopping one, then the other but still no joy.
I've run out of ideas now. I know it works as have managed to get wireless connection several times until I shut down the computer.
It seems that Sue
If having problems connecting wirelessly with livebox then try following in ORDER
Disable Security all togerther and apply settings, wait till livebox resets and settings have been applied and the lights have done thier dance
THEN press number 1 on livebox and try a wireless connection. You should notice antenna flashing, if the antenna is flashing before you press number 1 press number 1 anyway.
It should connect this way without a problem, if no luck then leave security disabled (for time being) and try changing channel numbers
try the following ones, one at a time
1, 7, 9, 11 (they usually tend to work best)
everytime you change the channel number and apply PRESS ONE ON LIVEBOX once the channel has been applied
If you get it working with a channel then if you have windows xp i advise set security to WEP and connect, if you have Vista then Set to WPA PERSONAL.
Press 1 on livebox once you have done this and THEN connect
Hope that helps, if not try same procedure with different wireless adapter.
ps. Stay away from belkin thier products are really horrid (im talking from personal experience here, there is no consistency with thier products at all sometimes they do work like a charm, other times they are a nightmare, even for the most technially minded people too.)
