My Orange broadband's speed has dropped to about 62k from a good usual speed of around 3-5MB (5.9 is apparently the top my line can provide). The upload rate has not dropped so much, and is about 120k at the moment.
This seems to have happened overnight on Thursday 28th Jan. I have no idea why and no settings have been changed. I have tried both wireless and wired connections but am acheiving the same downand upstream rates.
I talked to Orange who told me to change the channel the wireless was broadcasting on, and reset Internet Explorer. As I mentioned, nothing has improved.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Please can anyone help?
yep i have EXACTLY the same problem, all the technical support team say is it must be something this end but i have read on here several people are having these problems. i'm REALLY fed up with it as it happened for about 5 days at the start of January and then seemed to correct itself. i find it a bit odd how it's happening to my connection at the same time this month! I've had enough of calling India speaking to people who haven't a clue and don't understand what I'm trying to say, they're USELESS! funny how the only time you speak to people in the UK is when you sign up or threaten to leave!!!
I have just phoned up for my MAC code and the guy has basically refused to send it out for me and keeps saying he'll do a line test and get to the bottom of it and if he can't then he'll send it out I JUST WANT TO LEAVE THEM!!!!!

Email them this >>>>>>>
General Condition 22 explicity states that a clear explanation must be given if a MAC code cannot be issued >>
"Refusal to issue a MAC
A1.11 The Communications Provider shall only refuse to issue a MAC to their End-User if:
(a) the Communications Provider has, by taking reasonable steps, been
unable to validate the identity of the person requesting the MAC as the
End-User;
(b) the Broadband Service contract has already been terminated;
(c) a MAC which is still within its MAC validity period has already been
requested and issued by the Communications Provider in relation to
the Broadband Service; and
(d) the Communications Provider has already submitted a Cease Request
for the Broadband Service; and
(e) the Communications Provider is unable to obtain a MAC from a
Broadband Network Communications Provider.
A1.12 Where the Communications Provider is unable to, or refuses to, provide a MAC to the End-User, the Communications Provider shall provide the End-User with a clear explanation of why the MAC has not been provided."
In your email state that either you expect a MAC by return or a detailed and clear explanation why a MAC cannot be issued, otherwise you will refer the problem to OFCOM and ISPA.

the thing is I wouldn't mind staying with them, I don't want the hassle of setting up a new ISP etc but if my speeds are going to keep doing this them i'm off, what could be causing the problem? it must be something their end.
I spoke to a manager (in india) yesterday and he told me the whole Orange network was having problems, they didn't know what was causing it and it had been ongoing for about 6 weeks and that engineers were working on it, fair enough i thought, i called back later to double check as i couldn't find any referance to this on the internet and spoke to a different manager who told me what i had been told was not true they're a nightmare! does anyone know if Sky are any better? thats who i was planning on going to next!
Any ideas whats causing some people to have such slow speeds? it slows down the speeds up then slows down etc it's 300k then half hour later it's 4mb then 1.5mb it's so varied!
